I just had a child here in England 6 months ago. My husband is English and I am American. I had to go to the Embassy in London to report his Birth abroad and to file for his US passport and SS card.

My son is now a dual citizen, he has a British and US passport. It all went well. I just made the appt right after he was born. And went to London in May.

Hiya!  Couple of questions.
How many couples book these appointments before their baby is due?
I'm having twins, and am 7 months now, but will  be early, (have to have steriod injections this week) :(  Seem I should book seperate appointments for the twins from what I'm reading on the website or one??  Should I just wait to book until after they are born?
Thanks so much!!

You'll have to schedule separate appointments and you'll need the exact birthdate & full names...but you might be able to do them at the same time. Best thing to do is schedule the appointments online and then call the Embassy and have them consolidate them.

I made two appointments for my kids, but they did everything at the same time.  Just book them each their appt.  It's no big deal. It's not really done strictly by appointment.  You get there at a certain time, go in and wait in a queue.  Then you're in the system and you wait and go to windows when they call you.

So if I need to apply for a passport as well as the notification-thingy, do I pay both fees of $65 and $85?

Also, we're not registering the birth til 14 Jan as this was the 1st available appt...how long does the birth cert take to come through after that, as obviously we can't go to the embassy before getting the birth cert.

You do have to pay both fees.

As far as getting a birth registration certificate and how long that takes... My daughter was born on the 19th of May and we were not able to get an appointment to register her until the 4th of June. We were given her short form certificate for free and had to pay for a Copy of her Long Form Certificate at the appointment (same day). This is the one you need to get Child Benefit started and to apply for the Passport/US Consular Registration.

Hi everyone! Had the twins abit early but all is fine, but looking into getting an appointment, they have some next week, question is, US embassy website says I may have to have proof that I have resided in the US.  i.e. school transcripts etc.  I've left all that in the US, with my parents.
What have they wanted from anyone else experience?
Thanks so much!! :)

The school transcripts are only a requirement if you do not have any previous passports to prove that you have lived in the US to meet the residence requirement.

In addition to the documents listed above, you may be required to provide proof of your physical presence in the U.S. before the child's birth. Please submit old passports, if available, as evidence. If unavailable, other evidence, such as school transcripts, may be accepted.

Curious to your opinions - do you think my military orders will work in a pinch?  I have my initial contract, transfer orders to every single base I was on, and my discharge orders, which covers a period of six years.  I'll probably get Mom to send me my high school transcripts too, but as that only covers four years...

My first passport went walkabout when I was a kid, and the second was lost on my way back from France.  My third.. well, I'll hopefully have that back with my ILR in it soon. *grins*

It does say 'other evidence' and IMO your orders would work fine.
