Easy recipes that don't require an oven.
« on: June 23, 2008, 05:53:15 PM »
BF and I had a huge fight last night and I want to cook supper for him to make up for it.
Only catch is his oven doesn't work, so everything we cook has to be stove/microwave/george forman grill. And he has a pizza oven.

We do alot of chicken and pasta, and I'm starting to get sick of it. Any simple recipes that don't require an oven? I'm not much of a cook, but I can follow a recipe. Thanks!

How about fish?  I flash fry salmon steaks (also works with any white fish) and make a nice lemon and coriander sauce which tastes like it is difficult but really only takes about 10 mins.  New potatoes are out at the moment which can just be boiled, add some salad and get some strwberries and cream and bingo!  Posh dinner easy style, and only two pans used.

Thanks! He loves fish, but I can't stand the smell of it, much less the taste.  :-\\\\ If I'm eating dinner at someones house and that's all they offer, I'll eat it. But thats about it. I think it has something to do with my uncle chasing me around with fish guts and eyeballs when I was a kid...traumatized me for life.

I don't eat eggs cooked on their own either. (Don't mind them mixed in a cake or something...just not on their own) More traumatic childhood experiences: My high school biology teacher made us dissect a partially incubated egg. They were suppose to already not be alive when we got them, but mine was. My teacher just came over a poured some saline all over it and that was the end of that.  :\\\'(

Ah. Well steak then I guess...but I don't eat meat so someone else could chip in on that score.

Ah, just remembered this http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/steakdiane_89038.shtml from Something for the Weekend a few weeks ago.  My poor boyfriend was desperately trying to get me to change my eating habits after seeing it!

Why not a beef or veggie curry with boiled rice?

What about an asparagus rice pilaf?

You could even make a dessert that only needs to be chilled.
