Fan Oven Broke?

We have an electric fan oven.  Used it Friday night with no problems.  Used it again last night and it seems to have broken?

It's a fan oven, the regulator light (?) goes on when we switch the oven on, the internal oven light goes on and the fan starts.  1 hour later and the regulator light is still on and the oven is cold - well, slightly warm but not even close to hot.

The grill (in the oven) works fine.

Does anyone know if this is repairable or should I just consider a new oven.  I really hate to lose money on call-out fees!

Stoves are still worth repairing, unless at the point of being near renewal anyway so that you can't justify the cost or unless old enough that parts aren't readily available for the particular model.

It could be the heating element, the thermostat, or even just a loose connection.

Sounds like your fan element has died a death.  Lovely job.  :) 

If you've not got your appliances on contract with someone - I'd recommend somewhere like UK Whitegoods as a starting point for finding local engineers.

(Course...you've probably already had it repaired by now.  ;D )

Yup, got it fixed within 2 days...the heating element or something?  But thanks for responding anyway and for the suggestion.

Rather than start a new fan oven topic, I thought I'd ask my question here. I'm living (temporarily) with my future in-laws. They have a fan oven which has been broken for years. They're like that. They don't mend things. Don't get me started. Anyway, it's not such a big problem because it still works as an ordinary oven. It's just the fan part that isn't working. So far, I've only cooked meat in the oven, but would like to attempt a cake this week. But it seems that there's an awful lot of steam everytime you open the oven door - unlike my old conventional oven. Will that make my cake a soggy mess or will it be OK?

I suppose my best answer is maybe.  If it's reaching temperature - it'll cook - just as a gas oven will bake - it's just not the most even thing.  ;)  The steam could well play a factor - but I'm more up on the repairing side than the cooking - so it'd only be a guess from me.

Sounds like it could use a new fan motor tho - another quick job, but not quite as quick as an element!

It does reach temperature, so I think I'll give it a try. It's just the steam factor I'm concerned about!

And, yes, I'm sure it would be a quick and easy fix but, as with most things, I doubt it'll ever happen. If it were my house and my oven, I'd have repaired it ages ago!

Our fan oven works and it is still  steamy.  My glasses get fogged up every time I open it. I don't think that used to happen in the U.S., but maybe it did?

Either way, lots of steam but everything cooks all right, except for the unmentionable cheesecake.   ::)
