Registry Office...then Blessing Ceremony later?
« on: July 18, 2008, 08:14:49 AM »
My FH and I are doing the registry office deal (to save money) and then planning on returning to the US within a year or so to have the union blessed in a church. (I'm Catholic and I know my Nan had a different expectation)

It's not that out of the ordinary, right?

No it's not unusual at all.  I don't know anything about Catholic blessing ceremonies, though.

My husband and I were married in a registry office wedding this past October and we are planning a more spiritual ceremony and a big party for October 2009.  This way more of my friends from the US will be able to make it (none came to them original wedding).

It's going to be in Ireland where we met and will take place inside a stone circle!  There will be lots of music, too!

Awe, that sounds really lovely.

I'm in the same boat as far as people from the US missing the original. My Nan can't even make it because of her age, and I feel awful. So I'm looking forward to having something small, yet traditional later.

We just started planning for our "re wedding" lol. We had a registry and none of my family could make such short notice, so I'm giving family and friends a year to get it together and come over. It'll be a tiny ceremony but more of a big party and reception! :)

That is what we did.  Well, we got married in the US and had a blessing in COE when we came to the UK.

It was lovely and because we weren't getting married in the church we didn't have to pay for the ceremony.

We're getting married at a registry office in Devon on Saturday and then going to the States in a month and having another ceremony in November.  It's not a religious ceremony, but it's perfectly normal to have a second one for the people who couldn't make it to the one over here.  Only my parents can make it to the one this weekend so the November one is for all those who couldn't make it.

From what I've read, a lot of people have two ceremonies.  It's perfectly normal.

We're getting married in the UK July 09 and then will most likely have a second reception in the states for my family (elderly grandfather) and friends who couldn't make it. It'll probably be a while later though, near Christmas time so we can save up again  :-\\\\ money money money! haha
