All about renting

A newbie here searching for renting advice for the UK. (I saw a home ownership thread, but not one for letting.)

Please share websites you have found helpful (we're planning to move to London, but I'm sure websites for other areas would be useful for other members), things that you wish you would have known, and major differences you've noticed between renting in the US and the UK. When I first started searching I was shocked by how cheap everything was...until I realised it was all priced per week.

Cheers!

Just a terminology thing but you're looking to RENT, not let.  If you owned a flat and were seeking tenants, you would have a flat to let.  You're a renter.

My advice.. have cash or a way to put down your deposit.  Have a guarantor for your rental agreement.  Don't rent something unseen and walk to the tube from the flat before you decide to take it.  It might not seem that far until you're loading down with shopping or it's pissing down rain and dark.

Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…
