Swindon/Thursday Next Sites...
« on: September 05, 2008, 06:21:26 PM »
NOT that I'm going to Swindon JUST because I'm completely obsessed with Thursday Next or anything....
But is Swindon on the cheap or expensive side of things? I'm trying to plan  just maybe a day trip to snap a couple photos and see the sites and such..maybe check out the mammoth migration :). (I realize that if you aren't familiar with Jasper Fforde you will probably be a little confused as to what the heck I'm so excited for Swindon for :) )
Anything in the near area that I could check out as well? Cool sites? Interesting museums? Shops?

I stayed in East Leaze for a few weeks with friends.  It is right outside of Swindon.  I walked to the town often, but the only thing I remember is that I bought really cheap shoes there.

The town was nice enough, I love Thursday Next too.

Last time I went to Swindon I didn't see a single bear, but they could have been hiding....

As a long term West Country resident, it seems odd to hear of anybody being excited about Swindon, because here and in southern England generally, more than any other town except perhaps Basingstoke, Swindon means "Dullsville".

I have to agree.  We have to get DH's NIN from Swindon.  I shuddered when he informed me that was where we had to go. The journey in itself fills me with dread...and I agree..Swindon is a little bland for me too.  There are a few good shopping villages..but other than that I find it a little yawnish....I am sure others do not feel the same way tho.

I didn't realise anyone here lived in Swindon!

I do.  It's not a bad place to live, but I don't think it's a good place to visit.  'Course I've only been here for 2 1/2 months so I don't know it that well.

I think there are a couple of us about!  Im up in the new bit near the humoungous Borders/Starbucks.... I do hear a few americans about in the WalMart but I think they're military based and coming from somewhere around here....
