Blood test results
« on: September 24, 2008, 11:41:17 AM »
I had blood tests done on Monday that my GP ordered for me to test things like liver, kidney function, B12, anemia etc....

Her offices just called and said that I needed to come in to get results from my GP tomorrow.

Is that normal?? Why cant they tell me on the phone? Or is that normal procedure? Now Im freaking out thinking something is wrong...

When I had blood tests done, I was able to call and get the results, but they wanted me to come in to figure out what to do next (all the blood work came back normal, which left us with no easy explanation for the initial problem that made them do the tests).

I've found that it varies by surgery. At my old one, they wouldn't give you the results by phone at all. You had to either make an appointment (they wouldn't call to tell you things were back) or wait for their letter in the post.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

mine barely even told me results, I had to ask the next time I was in for an appoint...yet another reason to switch. I agree, they possibly want to just go over it in person and talk about taking the next step, if there is one. Don't freak! hugs

Having just had a myriad of blood work done myself, mine told me that if there was anything they needed to discuss, they would call me and have me come in and that if I hadn't heard from them after a week, to call and make sure.  They have actually been good in reviewing results and calling me to come in when there is something they don't like.
Hugs to you!

To relieve your mind...if there was something REALLY wrong they have you go straight to the hospital. That is what happened to me in January. They did blood test to look at my liver function when I was having my gall stone attacks. I had the blood draw around noon. At 4 pm my doctor (not his reception, but the doctor himself) phoned and said to go straight to the hospital. He had a letter done within minutes and we took it to the hospital. My junior surgeon later told me that if they had not removed my gall bladder and the stones that were blocking the bile duct when they did I would have had permanent liver damage in a day or two. So if things were really bad they would not wait to have you come in to the doctors.

Hope everything works out for you!
