Dislike your Doc? Complain.
« on: September 26, 2008, 12:32:45 PM »
I remember a thread I posted on not too long ago with a bunch of us complaining about our GP.  I had a recent experience that left me with a really bad taste in my mouth.  I did some looking into how to do a complaint against GPs and this is what I came up with:

http://www.thesite.org/homelawandmoney/askthesiteqandas/legalandrightsqandas/doctordilemma

There are three options, which is good depending on your problem(s).

I will be making a complaint here: http://www.gmc-uk.org/concerns/making_a_complaint/a_patients_guide.asp#5

Please look into making a complaint and speak up if your GP/Doctor/Healthcare professional has done something that could put you or another in jeapordy.

I am going to complain because I could've been very ill of a medicine prescribed as well as the way I was spoken to. I do not want others to have to feel the way I did, or be prescribed medication  they don't and should not need to take. I shouldn't have been  prescribed the medication he gave me, especially after going over the situation SEVERAL times in detail.

Good Luck!

Or, how about:

You never know, one of our lovely UKY members might even drop by & expound further on PALS.  :)

Thank you for the introduction, C!  ;)

FYI, most of the complaints that come through the GMC are about serious untoward incidents - serious breaches of clinical judgement. They will all end up with the Primary Care Trust to investigate. I personally think the best route is to take it to the Complaints Department at the PCT - they will channel it through the practice's complaints system and then ask to see the response. If the response is not to your satisfaction then you can ask for a local resolution meeting and after that if you're still not happy you can take it to the Healthcare Commission and then the Ombudsman.

If it's something that you're unhappy about but you would rather get a quick solution to you should take it to the PCT's Patient Advice & Liaision Service.

I work in Complaints/PALS at a PCT....  :)
