driving theory test... which parts to study?
« on: October 13, 2008, 01:59:01 PM »
Here I am looking at the Highway Code online when DH tells me he isn't sure if I have to know ALL of it, or just the driver and rider section.  Do I need to know all the motorcycle stuff, etc., or just the regular stuff?  Thanks!

I borrowed a DVD from a friend, and used that as a study guide. My husband gave me a great piece of advice regarding the theory test, he said, if in doubt, always pick the safe option, as the test is really about safety.

Good luck!

Pick up an official study guide and just memorise it all. Bear in the mind that the book changes a bit every year, so if you have an older edition it might not include stuff you need to know (and will include stuff you don't need to know). Good luck!  :)

a very nice UKY member is sending me a CD-ROM this week as a study guide, I am just getting an early start looking through the handbook, as well...  ;D
Was just curious if you had to study every section of the handbook, or just the driving rules?
But that is good advice Racheeeeee!

I wouldn't call it a study guide, more of a cheat sheet.  Study the questions, you pass!  same questions on the actual test.  HPT is easy.  No need to read the highway code.

Like nc73, I didn't study the highway code at all.  I got the DSA learner pack, did the practice hazard perception test a few times to get the hang of it, did the practice theory test enough times until I could pass on every attempt, and that was it.

On the actual test I got 50 out of 50 on theory, and a lousy 45 on the HPT, but passing on that is 44, so good for me.  :)

The CD rom that includes the Hazard Perception test was the best thing I could recommend  :)

Also..it may sound daft but when going out for a drive..observe the signs and ask the driver what they mean..You learn signs quickly that way...Unless you ask my father who will tell you "beware of ninja ducks" ( the triangle with the duck in it ) and "beware of men opening large umbrellas" ( the roadworks sign ) and "beware of old age pick pockets" ( ederly sign )...Yawn  ::) his jokes are so old....
