PETS: Duty and VAT relief details
« on: October 15, 2008, 04:23:13 PM »
While I have been here in Wales setting up house, DH and our dog have been waiting for her 6 month waiting period to be up.  It is up today, and they are traveling tomorrow, arriving here on Friday.  Hooray!  We had a question on one of the Customs Forms.  It is under "Duty and VAT relief details".  There is a column called "Price Paid" and there is a column called "*Present Value" where the * is "Cost of buying another pet of the same breed, age, and condition". There is also an "or" between the columns.  Since we adopted our dog, we didn't pay anything for her so we're not sure what to put.  What figure did other people put on their forms?  Will they charge VAT on her based on what we put down?  That seems crazy!

Any suggestions on this would be most welcome.  Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I entered a value of zero (even though I thought "priceless") for my 3 domestic short haired kitties.

I imagine it's for purebreeds - people who feel they have made an investment in their animals.
...the whole damn thing will turn
and return redefined, rearranged, rearranged...
