I still don't exactly understand squash... I thought squash was more like fresh-squeezed juice, while juice was sort of the concentrated stuff you water down.
And who could ever miss Marmite????!!!!!!!!!!!! [smiley=puke.gif]

Yuk, agreed!
My son found Ribena in our local Stop and Shop, so don't think its that difficult.  They also sometimes have the dreaded Mxxxxxxx stuff.  But expensive.

Ha ha!  Because the "s" in squash was a lower case letter, I thought you meant the vegetable.  Duh.

Just because it's lower case, doesn't mean it has to be the vegetable :); squash with a lower case 's' can have various different meanings (vegetable, drink, racket sport etc.). In terms of the concentrated drink, 'squash' is just the name used for that type of drink (like juice or wine or beer) - it's not a brand name or anything like that (the brand names would be Ribena, Robinson's, Vimto, Kia-Ora etc.) :).

Yeah, DH used to buy it in the "world foods" section of the supermarket for about five bucks a pop. Eeew.

I loved reading that article. It reminded me so much of the tiny little stumbling blocks that threw me, like hunting for ages for the apple juice concentrate.  :)

Oh!  I just assumed squash was a brand name.  Never even thought of the racket sport, either!  :D

It's  just a less posh word for 'cordial'.

My wife likes it, and was one of the things she requested I take over the first time I visited her in the US!

Good article.  Its so true that when you move, you miss the strangest things that you take for granted. You love shopping for new foods and find new ones you love (and 11 months in and I still am finding new things all the time and I love it!)- but you find yourself missing the oddest of things.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

like corndogs...  ???
I never ate them much before, and now I really want one, but I am too lazy to want to try to do it at home...  :)
I think it was because I knew the State Fair of Texas was open and I wouldn't be there to indulge in their deep-fried goodness...

I think the whole missing foods thing is fascinating! Not only do you miss stuff you never thought you would miss, but when you get them, 8 times out of 10 you can't figure out why you craved it to begin with! (Mexican food and kosher pickles being the 2 out of 10 items, of course!  ;) )

you shouldn't have mentioned the "M" word to me!   ;)
I suddenly forgot all about corndogs...

Well, I keep having intermittent cravings for toasted teacakes (lashings of butter) but nothing like that back in the US of A!
