What do you wear to the gym
« on: October 25, 2008, 08:06:45 PM »
So my mom and myself got a membership to the YMCA mainly to use the pool for exercise but they have a gym so on days we don't want to pool it were going to use the gym (today example, pools closed after 1pm). First time in a gym and I don't have "gym clothes"....

So tell me...what do you wear to the gym? When you first started and now...

Can we add a poll to this?

I wear soft cotton shorts, everyday normal t-shirts, & a sports bra my girls are to big not to wear one lol, the sneakers I wear are lightweight but comfortable Skechers. I cant wait till when Dh & I come home next May so I can get some more comfortable gym clothes & some more of the sports bras I like possibly a new pair of sneakers for the gym as well. some people wear those Nike clothes that absorb your sweat so your clothes don't stick to you during your workout. I wouldn't mind some of those clothes but they are expensive & I don't think they make them in big girl sizes.  ;)  :P

I wear yoga pants, which are looser and usually lighter weight, a sports bra and a t-shirt or tank top. I don't need to be in a fashion show, but I don't like looking dumpy either. I like slip on sneakers, like Pumas, so when I stretch they are easy to take on and off.

When I used the gym (!), I wore comfy cotton shorts, sports bra, t-shirt (or sometimes spaghetti-strap tank top) with typical tennis shoes.  Nothing fancy, just comfortable.

A bit random, but for some reason I've observed here in the UK that girls tend to wear NORMAL BRAS a lot when jogging/working out.  Yes, the serious runners still wear sports bras, but I seriously see women all the time and it's quite clear they are wearing a normal, wired bra.  Why on earth would you torture yourself like that?!  Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just crazy?

During the week, there are loads of guys in the gym that seem to just go in there to look around at the girls, they dont break a sweat, they just sit there and lift a few weights and look around with their hair all gelled back. They annoy me.. sooo when I go during the week I tend to cover up more and wear gym pants that go just passed my knee, sports bra and a spaghetti strap tank top. On the weekends the gym is empty so i wear comfy cotton shorts (theyre a bit shorter than id like but comfy) and a spaghetti strap tank top and sports bra.

I prefer to workout in shorts because i get way to hot, but cant seem to find any that are a reasonable length. Theyre all either too short or are longer and poof out a bit to make me look like i have a massive bum.  :-\\\\

It's been a while since I've been to a gym, but that's what I used to wear as well. I don't like seeing myself in shorts and I find they have a tendency to "creep up" (ugh), so the yoga trousers work well.

On the rare occasions I've gone, I've worn yoga pants or leggings with a baggyish shirt and sports bra.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I've never found a sports bra that doesn't give me a uni-boob. :P

I normally just wear cotton shorts and t-shirts. I really like the Champions plus line at www.justmysize.com (click on workout tab). They're really comfortable.

As the Director of Development for the YMCA here in Denver, I have a contractual duty to thank you for joining the Y :)   I use the elliptical a lot rather than a treadmill or any running simply because you dont have to worry about the uni-boob problem.  No sports bra required here since you dont do any bouncing around, but still get a great workout. I wear yoga pants no matter what kind of exercise I am doing and I recently have been wearing a more breathable shirt than a cotton t-shirt. We got staff shirts that have little tiny holes in them and wick away any moisture and they are wonderful!  I am sure you can get similar ones anywhere you buy work out clothing.  Have fun!

hehehe sports bras are made to make u uni boobed and FLAT! the flatter , the better i say!
next time when u go and try them on in teh changing room , give up and down , see if they bounce if they do tehn they are no good.

lol
marks and spencers high impact bras are one of the best . nike's are good . go for high impact and try to get a cup smaller to actually hold them really tight. u are only going to wear it for an hour 2 hours max . so its worth it for looking after the puppies lol
