corn syrup?
« on: November 18, 2008, 04:57:03 PM »
I decided I want to bake a pecan pie instead of apple, but I just realized I haven't seen corn syrup here, but then again, I haven't really looked.  Is it available, or does anyone have a recipe for pecan pie with ingredients found here in UK?

There are a lot of threads about corn syrup on here but in short, no it's not available except to order through American food sites. I think most people just substitute golden syrup.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I make pecan pie with a mix of golden syrup and treacle (which I think is the same as molasses).

I bought sugar syrup for use in cocktails the other day...I don't know if this can be used instead of corn syrup, though it is quite pricey.

Golden syrup works fine. In fact, I think it's tastier! I can look up my recipe tonight if you'd like, but it's just a regular US recipe.

just use your US recipe and substitut golden syrup, as elynor said I too think it's better than with corn syrup

Cool, thanks a lot!   ;D
That one from the BBC site looks great, I've never had one with rum in it before, but I am eager to try it....
Now I'm getting REALLY excited!!!
