UK's Pre-Budget Report
« on: November 24, 2008, 08:24:49 PM »
Today Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling gave his Pre-Budget Report, and as expected announced lots of tax changes. These are detailed on this HM Treasury webpage.

It will not be immediately obvious but some of the changes counteract one another. For example the VAT rate is being reduced from 17.5% to 15% as from 01.12.08, but quite deliberately in order to stop the cost of petrol and diesel reducing, the rates of fuel duty are being increased. The same principle is being applied to alcoholic drinks.

But all those with children and claiming Child Benefit will be pleased to see that the previously announced change is being brought forward from April 2009 to January 2009.

Even more data in the links on this Treasury webpage.
