Lamb..
« on: December 07, 2008, 12:54:22 PM »
I've agreed to cook Christmas dinner for DH's family and want to make lamb.  Problem is, I've never cooked it before and have no idea what kind of "cut" to get.

Any suggestions?

We most often have a leg or shoulder joint, when we do a lamb Sunday roast - but that's just for the two of us.

If you insist upon buying locally reared lamb, it's not really lamb season in the UK right now.  We prefer mutton anyway - more flavour.

My mother always did a roasted leg of lamb, which is easy to get a delicious, juicy result with. We never tried other cuts, but leg was a good one for us. i think she just basted it like one does a chicken or turkey, very simple to roast; but I'm no expert in the kitchen so you might want to investigate further. But yep, leg of lamb is a succulent one.

yes, I recommend a leg of lamb, you can season it quite simply with garlic, rosemary and even some anchovies. Use a meat thermometer to make sure its cooked inside. Its lovely with mint sauce. I love lamb.

Enjoy!

Mind and not overcook it... it's meant to be pink inside.  :)
