The cat transport horror is over!
« on: December 21, 2008, 06:00:06 PM »
OK, well we got here (I'm a UK citizen, my friend is a US citizen coming here with BUNAC). It was quite an ordeal though! Carrying a cat each in large pet containers, plus a large luggage item and a carry-on bag, from Orlando was not fun...

So it was:
Home in Orlando to the Virgin animal cargo place in Orlando by car (spent about an hour signing papers, paid $1000 for the two cats)
Got a lift off a cargo worker from there to the airport (as our friend who drove had to leave us)
Red eye flight from Orlando to Gatwick, missed a night of sleep :(
Gatwick to Animal reception by Taxi, took about an hour to get the cats (plus £190 fee)
Taxi from there to a train station (Seven sisters?)
From there to St Pancras station on another train
St Pancras station to Kings Cross (walked there, only a short walk but still a pain with the cat carriers)
Kings Cross to Newcastle (had trouble finding somewhere to put the cats, ended up with them on top of each other on our table which the conductor wasn't very happy about. We were too tired to care)
Newcastle station to my parent's house

Now we're just relaxing! The cats are fine, were comfortable the whole journey, didn't make a sound and have instantly settled in here. No more worries then, although I think they might have possibly stamped my friend's passport incorrectly for BUNAC, if so it gives us an excuse to go to a country in Europe for a few days though to get it re-stamped. I hear Dover to Calais is the best option. It's all good :)

Congratulations!  You must be so relieved!  I'm moving to Newcastle with two cats and a big dog next summer--I hope it goes as smoothly!

Glad you and the kitties made it ok.... having made the long journey from Dallas to Newcastle to Amble with three giant suitcases, a huge camera bag, and my 20" iMac in an iLugger bag, which weighed a ton, I can imagine how exhausted you must feel, and it must've been worse with lugging around a couple of cat carriers!!!  I could barely move my neck and shoulders for a few days when I got here!  At least you and the kitties can relax now.   ;D

I am sooo glad that it all worked out for you. You can't believe the nightmare that happend to me. I got here a week ago and they confiscated one of my 3 cats and put him in quarantine. It's on the post called "cat-astrophe"

I am stunned and devastated.
