I'm one of the many waiting for a spouse visa for my wife so she can come join me in London.

Had the confirmation emails from the LA consulate on November 25th, not a word since then. That makes it around 25 working days by my count. We didn't use a courier.

Only thing it seems we can do is to fax LA, so...
Has anyone found faxing the consulate to be useful?
What would you say in a fax? Am hoping to get some indication of when the visa will come through, or if they want some more information from us.

One last thing - is it possible to hire a courier now, send them in to the LA consulate to see if they can get any info?

Just to give you all an idea, we've now been apart a month and are starting to go a bit nuts. Good luck everybody
Adam

It's 25 days.  We have had two major rule changes, a biometrics problem, and Christmas.

I really don't think faxing the consulate is going to help you, and I don't think it is really reasonable to do so after just a short space of time. As you can from this forum, most are waiting the same time so it is not as if your case is special or the wait is unusual.  There is clearly nothing to worry about, and unless you have an urgent need for her to be here (ie someone is pregnant or dying) I would really be patient.

Cool, thanks for the advice Vicky. True, about everyone on here has been waiting a similar length of time. It's great to get your opinion on this, nice to hear that I shouldn't be worrying too much. Hard not to a bit though. Thankfully there's no terrible thing happening that she needs to be out here for...just the usual, life, that kinda thing.

Vicky

I realize that I am not more important than anyone else on here, but I have a 6 month old daughter with my husband and it is just getting to be so tough with not knowing when I will be getting my visa. My daughter just had eye surgery and we need to get over to England to see a specialist over there as well. I only have 1 more week of work because we had figured I would already be there so now it is coming down to a financial crunch with me. What should I do? Do you think this would be a good reason to fax the LA consulate and check the status to see if I should try and get another job if it will be another month or so?

Did you mention any of this in your application or original cover letter about your daughter and her need to see a specialist? If you sent your app at the beginning of December and only just received confirmation of receipt on the 16th, you shouldn't expect to hear much until next week at least. The typical wait is about 20 working days for straightforward cases...but if I remember correctly, you had to send yours to the LA consulate because of other issues with NY, so it seems the only thing anyone can do is try to be patient and wait. You could fax them, but it's more than likely you just came across a busy time with so many recent changes.

**EDIT: Although, I do wonder if a note from a doctor for your daughter may express urgency? (Just a thought out loud.)

As far as work, is there no way to retract the notice you have given so you could extend your time? I would suggest working as long as possible until you know for certain when you will be leaving. I gave my notice in June for the school I was working in thinking that I would be in England and married by July, ready to start working by the start of school in August...but on the contrary, we ran into some unforseen things and weren't married until November. I felt awful not being able to work longer and earn a bit more.

I certainly don't envy anyone dealing with visas from this point. Hope you both (iluvmybrit and 321.adam) hear something soon!

The LA consulate brought in a floater last week to help clear out the backlog, give it a bit more time...
