Winter Itch
« on: January 09, 2009, 12:08:37 PM »
I thought since England was more humid than the midwest, I would be rid of this problem forever but I have it.  In the States I use Gold Bond medicated lotion that cools the skin so you have no desire to itch.  Sadly you cannot buy this here. :\\\'(  Does anyone know if there is a similar product I can use?  I looked at a lot of anti itching cream but they all warn against using it on large areas.   Since it's basically my whole body, that is out of the question.  I have lotions but they don't really help to stop the itching as my husband sees me scratch in my sleep.  When I wake up, I look like 30 cats used me as a scratching post. If anyone else has this problem, what do you use?
Help! :-[

You are right: Gold Bond is the best.  Sadly, DD has not found a British equivalent so has to take it back in suitcase (along with the Cheerios  ;D)

Have you tried Aqueous cream BP (from any chemist)?  DD uses that.

We have an off-brand sensitive skin cream (don't remember what it is called, but it is basically like the UK version of Cetaphil) that works nicely.  Also, try soaking in a warm (not too hot!) bath with lots of baby oil in, then just patting dry rather than rubbing, and applying a regular sensitive skin cream after your bath instead of a lotion.  Lotions contain alcohol and dry your skin out more.  Bubble bath also dries out your skin, as does most soap, but hey, you have to wash!  Just try to use a sensitive skin soap rather than a smelly one. Unfortunately, I am the queen of the itchy people!   [smiley=crown.gif]  :(
Anyway, this works for me....

Aveeno! I use the oil (which is like a body wash) - it does wonders for me- the bath soaks are really good too.  I have nortious issues with my hands, they dry out consistently and constantly, crack, bleed, and itch and I use a a Johson's Soothing Naturals Baby Lotion and my hands are much better these days.

I'd still try and use some of those anti-itch creams in the areas you find you've scratched yourself to bits in the morning though...

If you miss the cooling action of Gold Bond, try adding a bit of tea tree essential oil to the E45.  It works really well for me.
