Eposon CX9400 - Not reading Ink Cartridges

Hi All,

I brought my CX9400 over from the States with me and just got around to buying new ink for it.  They sale this same printer here in the UK and I bought the Epson Ink that is made for it. 

However when I put it in it says it can not recongnize the ink cartridge.  Has anybody had this issue?  Is it because of the chip that is on the ink and it being a US machine and UK ink?  *ugh*  ???

Yes. Epson region-code their ink cartridges. I think you must buy a printer here, or mail order ink cartridges from the US, or do what is legal here in the UK, and call one of those shops like Cartridge World which have chip resetting equipment. They may be able to sell you correctly coded cartridges.

Isn't it also possible to get a cartridge refilled?

I got printer cartridges for Christmas because of this issue, but was hoping to go the refill route later.

I didn't bring any cartridges from the States with me.. I may see about having my mom send me some over and then just see about filling them up beyond that.

I have been researching a bit and think I found where you can reset the chip but I can not tell if that is just to reset it to tell it is full again or if it will help me get past that region settings.

My HP had the same issue. Supposedly it's possible to reprogram the region, but even after many, many calls to customer support we weren't able to do it. They eventually replaced the printer with a UK version, under warranty.

Don't forget to send an e-mail to Epson pointing out that you think region-coding ink cartridges is ridiculous and completely unnecessary, and that if they persist with this crazy system you will not be considering buying Epson products in the future.

I had a Canon inkjet and I just got so fed up with buying cartridges that I shoved it in the trash and bought a (Canon, actually!) laser printer for £54 which has a 5000 page toner cartridge that costs about £25. If I want colour A4 printouts I do 'em at work and Boots do my photos for 10p each.
