Life insurance policy that's good in both countries?
« on: February 05, 2009, 09:12:36 PM »
We might be moving back to the States. My husband's life insurance policy is currently offered through his job, and if we move we'll get there about a month before his new job starts (it may offer insurance, which we may or may not use). I have health issues and he doesn't like the thought of me being without his support in the unlikely event anything happens to him (he's young and healthy). We would like to get a policy here that would cover us in the U.S. as well if we move back. The few policies I've looked into all seemed to be just for UK residents, so I would imagine they'd end the minute we moved. We would also gladly buy a policy from a U.S company if there is one that would cover us while we are still here and when we move back, too. Any ideas?

I would suggest getting private cover. That way, you can stop and restart it as is relevant to where you live, if that makes sense?

My wife was on about this she has life insurance and wondered if we ever moved back to the US if it would still be in force as she has had her policy for over 10 years and paid alot into it, but it only pays out if you die and she would not want to lose that as its for the boys ect.

Interesting we must look into this and find out.

I assumed anything I buy outside of work is private cover, and I was hoping someone had recommendations of a company that would let you move coverage with you to another country. If anyone knows, please share! :)
