Warwick Castle

Anyone been?  would you recommend it as a good day out for 3 adults?  What is the best part and would you consider it good value for money?

We've done Warwick and thought it was okay.  A bit expensive, and my sisters thought it was too "staged".  Certainly not a place I would go to again.

Kenilworth Castle, however, is fabulous if you are looking for a beautiful romantic, ruin-y castle.  EVERY time my family comes to visit, they ask if we can go to Kenilworth.  My sister has been to Kenilworth on every one of her four visits to the UK and it is definitely a place I don't mind going to over and over and over.

I used to live right by Warwick Castle and went there a couple times. I have to say, I wouldn't really recommend it. I thought it was expensive and just not that interesting, really. Not too far from there is Kenilworth Castle. It's an English Heritage sight, much cheaper and really interesting. If it is a nice day, you can have a picnic on the grounds and have a great time roaming around the ruins.

I have to agree with the others. We went there last year since it is close to my in-laws, and my mother-in-law had free tickets (she has more Tesco points than she knows what to do with). Had we paid the very high entrance fee, it definitely would not have been worth it.

It's owned by the Tussauds group, so it is very staged, and a bit cheesy.

When you say its staged..how do you mean?  They guy who is coming to visit is really into Medieval history / Monty Python etc..( probably a likkle bit of a nerd -  Sssshhhh - I never said that  ;))...are you saying that there are actors and jousting there? I think he would love that...unless of course its very babyish. :-\\\\

They have wax figures staged throughout the castle (a la Madame Tussauds). Actors might make it more interesting, but wax figures...not so much.

The grounds are very pretty. And the castle is interesting from a historical point of view. It's just not worth the entry fee, in my opinion.

I went past Kenilworth Castle in a car on the way to somewhere else many years ago, and didn't realise you could actually go there and see something...it's now been added to my list!

As far as Warwick Castle, I think it depends on the types of activities that they have going on there.  It's been more than five years since my mom, my uncle and my kids and I visited - we had a great time, but we weren't so much impressed with the interiors of the castle as what was going on in the grounds.

There were actors or re-enactors there, demonstrating all kinds of arts, like the hand-making of bows and arrows.  There were also two men who demonstrated what went into 'dressing' a knight to get him ready for battle - and then they had a little battle once they were all dressed up.  Very educational and entertaining at the same time. 

My favourite spot was the mound - the remains of the original 'fortress' built by William the Conqueror.  From the mound, a beautiful view down on the Avon....

It's not a place I'd visit again, but we enjoyed that visit...

We visited Warwick castle shortly after arriving in the UK 7 1/2 years ago and I have to say that I thought it was great.  Never having seen anything like it before I was a bit awe struck by its size and how old it is.  I do agree with the other posts that it is very expensive but there is a lot to see. You can bring your own picnic which should save you some £.
If you have nothing else to compare it to it's a good day out and I would recommend going, you'll not see anything like it in the USA
