Student visa application fee and check lists???
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:58:26 PM »
Okay, I have been scanning today to get an idea of how much it will cost me for the applying for the student visa and have yet to find that amount, though I keep finding all kinds of other interesting information.  I know a number of you looking to start uni this fall are ahead of me in the game, so I was hoping you could help.  Any idea what the visa application fee is?

Also, does anyone have a checklist they put together of what they need to do from now till they start uni?  I thought it would be nice to see, just to make sure I am not forgetting anything.

Thanks!

Okay now that I posted I found the information of the first part of my post. Incase anyone needs this, here is a website that outlines all the fees for all categories.  http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/visafees/

Still looking for checklists if anyone wants to share.

Hi goods,

The student visa application will fall under Tier 4 for entry this fall. This is a new tier that will begin in April, with official guidelines published on the UKBA site on Monday: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/. Everything's really up in the air until then.

According to previous docs, the application fee should be £99 (could change) and it's a point-based system: You'll need proof of sponsorship (official visa letter from uni) and proof of maintenance funds (they haven't released anything official laying out exactly what this means).

On that same site is a DRAFT guideline. Hopefully, the final version will be published on Monday. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/pbs/Tier_4_migrant_guidance_DRA1.pdf

You'll need quite a few documents, particularly to prove maintenance (funding). If you are taking out loans, be sure to file your FAFSA and determine how your school handles US loans. One of my schools required that I send an 8-page SAR, others didn't.

I'm in the same boat as I'm planning to start uni in the fall. Good luck! Where do you plan to study?
