It's a really good idea.

Per Vicky, I fired off an enquiry to the lawyer about a possible drafting error.  But the idea of an editorial has a certain ring to it that appeals...

Hi Garry,
Sorry to hear about your Dad and the dog. What a piece of work....
Anyway my sister is a dog breeder and is high up the ladder on several national organizations in the States (Rottweiler, Shutzhund, etc.). Maybe she can spread the word and get that breeder at least casually blacklisted? She is absolutely scrupulous, and few people are willing to mess with her anymore...
PM me and tell me the type of dog, place where the deed occurred, and the name if you dare.
I will see if my sister knows anything and might be willing to pass on this information.
Don't know if it would help, but this breeder's reputation needs some adjustment in terms of reality.
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying:
"I will try again tomorrow"

That's despicable; so sorry to hear of this, and about the loss of your father.

That woman needs shaming bigtime if there is any way you can achieve that in her professional community. I'm upset for the dog -- hope you can get the dog back into the family.

Garry, sorry to hear about your Father.
WOW that is just amazing that someone could have the Brass ones to do that.  I agree with taking it to the local papers.  That is just so wrong on so many levels.

But sometimes they don't make sense.

Gary, I am really sorry to hear about the loss of your father and what the breeder has done. People are shocking sometimes, how do some people sleep at night?

I think Chary's idea is a good one.....let everyone know how unprofessional this woman is. She should be shamed into returning the money.

The suggestions here gravitate towards a media type solution.  It's perfect.

Many thanks for all who passed along condolences and ideas.   :-*

Garry, I too am sorry to hear about your father's death.

There are a number of online forums dedicated to breeders and breeding.  I used to work with a woman who named and shamed her dog's breeder.  The puppy only lived 4-5 months, most of them ill.  It turned out others had problems with this woman too, and weren't shy about posting publicly.

My heart really feels saddened. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope the situation works out.

I agree with the others, word of mouth does a lot of damage. If you breed dogs it's almost a requirement that you love them to bits. If she bred this dog from a litter of her own and  from a customer who thought of her and wanted the best for his dog but was willing to just dump the pup how shocking and dispicable! She will get what's coming to her I am sure.

Again, let us know how it works out. If it can't get a home with you or your family I may have a place at mine as my heart goes out to all of you x

First, I'm so sorry for the loss of your father, Garry.

Next, get the pup adopted within the family a start lathering on the dog's "needs". If the breeder doesn't acknowledge that she actually had to keep the dog, she can't deny she had to finance his needs in old age.

I say his old age is the second you get him back in the family! Let's see:

1)  daily bubbles baths, combing and grooming
2)  any and all vet bills
3)  daily exercising and walks in the park
4)  expensive chew toys purchased weekly
5)  daily obedience school and a private school

You get the point! Feel free to add to the list anyone!

6) premium old age dog food, wet, dry
7) special treat made for old age dogs
8) vitamins
9) anti flea and worm treatments
10) holiday for the pet in the lake district in a pet friendly cottage
11) comfy plush pet bed

it could get expensive lol I'm sure there's more but that's off the top of my head lol
