Lonely in London...
« on: January 26, 2003, 04:47:54 PM »
Hey there...I have been here three weeks of a five-month stay.  I'm originally from Northern California, but came here by way of law school in Missouri.  I'm finishing my final semester here.  Because we haven't been thrown into regular classes here, I'm finding it hard to meet people.  Any suggestions?

Hi Sandee, welcome to UKY...  I am not in London...or even England for that matter yet so I would not be of help... I am sure the school has social activities?  maybe they would help with getting to know some people...

I hope your stay there along with your courses turns out to be a good adventure you will always remember...

you might wish to visit the student lounge here and talk to some of the other students in England for some advise.

Good Luck

Welcome to England, to London and to the UKY.  You'll find that there's a lot of us in London, and there are a lot of things always happening here.  It all depends what kind of things you're interested in doing in London.

How are you finding your first weeks of your stay?

Hi Sandee!

I'm in London as well and yes, it can be hard to meet people in this great big city.

I've found most of my 'friends' at work, and thru this website actually.  :)

There are several of us in and around London so if you're in the mood for a lunch or coffee or something, just let us know!

Best of luck in your studies!

Lunch or coffee some time would be wonderful.  The course I am taking is pretty disorganized, so despite having been here three weeks, I haven't met any other students yet, and it looks like it may be a while before we have any social activities.

I am interested in just about anything you can think of, so if any activities come up where you need another body, I'd love to be involved.  I am trying to see all the museums, I would like to do some walking/hiking in the countryside, I like board games and card games, and I'm always up for a latte or a few pints...

I used to play soccer, I play ultimate frisbee (not well, but I did bring my own disc), and I am an avid softball (or baseball) player.  Really, I'm up for anything that gets me out of the house and in contact with other people.

Oh, did I mention shopping?  Although I can't afford to buy much I still enjoy the window shopping.

I like London and am adapting to life here, but some friends 'from home' would be nice...

hi sandee and welcome to UKY.  i've been here for almost a year and a half now and still find it hard to meet people, lol.  thank goodness for this site.  since moving a lil further out of london i have found it atleast a lil easier to approach people (they dont think ur as strange, lol).   anyway, what museums have u seen?  whats been ur fave thing about london so far?  and have u mastered the underground yet?  i absolutely love it here, but of course miss all my friends and family back home (in alabama).  anyway....good luck with your studies and let us know when ur ready for a break and maybe we can all get together.
