What is with the half shower doors?
« on: April 12, 2009, 10:35:49 PM »
Does anyone else not really like these?

We have one and I am so paranoid of water squirting all over the bathroom floor.

I don't have any door so there is no glass to have to scrub down. Very little water goes out on the floor but that would be ok because it is a marble floor.

Cannot stand them.  You freeze to death and water gets everywhere.  I put up a shower curtain anyway.

My in-laws have one.  I'm not too bothered, but it took my MIL ages to get used to cleaning and using it.  When I last stayed with my in-laws when DH was away on work a couple years back I could tell when my FIL used it as the water did go all over the place b/c he would bump it and not realise.   :P  MIL would give him a massive bollocking over it!

I am a big fan of the half shower door, I am guessing you mean like the one below. They keep the rest of the bathroom dry, and I hate hate hate shower curtains, they are so gross if they touch your bum. Gross. I have one now, and I need a new bathroom, we will get another one. My bathroom is warm anyway, so I don't get cold.

Is it just me, or are UK tubs higher off the ground than American tubs? They look that way in the picture above.

I think some tubs here are a bit higher, yes.

Those half shower-doors; the one I experienced here still needed a shower curtain around the "missing" half because of water splashage. Wait, that isn't a word. But you know what I mean.  :D

We've lived with them for 2+ years.  *shrug* Once you get used to it, it's just fine.  Never had a problem with water on the floor, either.   They have more 'coverage' than you think once you actually use them.

Less to clean, like others have said! :D

Ugh. Hate them. They don't work well for tall people, IME, because you often have to have the shower head aimed further to the back of the tub so you get the water spraying where you need it. Hence, more 'splashage'.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I also haven't been able to get them to work right for me. We have them in our current flat, and there's a pool on the floor after every shower. :(
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

They totally are! I have fallen on my ars* many a time trying to get out and forgetting I have  a lot more room to fall. Many bruised shins too.

That said I love the half door because I HATE shower curtains too. I like that it airs out the bathroom and never gets anything wet that i've noticed. We don't have one personally but from all the hotels I've stayed at, I wish we did.

I love it!  Less to clean, no manky curtain, don't feel like I'm trapped by a full door.

Broken fingers here.  :-\\\\

As for the half-doors, I honestly can't say I've ever given them much thought! They just ... are.
