« on: June 29, 2004, 07:24:37 PM »
i have worked in a couple of offices here in the UK...i have found the atmosphere very similar to that in the US...been thinking i need a career change after working in offices the past ten years...rite now i am working in a small office..which i have to say that i don't enjoy working in small offices as much..i have found it very cliqueish....but working here has definitely helped me adjust to living here

I know that if I hadn't started working as soon as I got here then I'd most likely not be so comfortable living here as I am now. It's definately helped me adjust.

Funny you said that about small offices, I found it the same. I found it very difficult to work in a small office. I prefer much larger companies.

Ive found with small companies the managers tend to try to micro manage me more than in large ones. I dont take kindly to being micro managed to watched constantly.

I didnt work straight away once I moved and I think since Ive started working Ive actually grown to dislike the country more than when i wasnt working. at least when I wasnt working I didnt have to consistantly come into contact with incompetant asses every day. I dont have much patience for them and it ends up ruining my day or week when I have to deal with stupid people. work and I surely dont mix.

hopefully there'll be better luck on my new job starting on the 1st.

I'm in a small office and I love it.  But maybe it has to do with the type of work you do and the type of office?  I've always been a legal secretary (well, since I was 19, at least) and I really like a smaller legal office than a larger one.  This one isn't anywhere near as clique-y as the one I worked at last in the US - but maybe it's because I just don't let any clique-like behaviour bother me at this point?

I think you are right about not letting clique like behavior bother you....at times it can be difficult though when your colleagues have been working together for a long time and aren't open to new ideas about how to get the work done...
