Hello!
I am considering a move to the Nottingham area, but all the stories on crime are beginning to scare me! I am a single mum of a 14 y/o girl, and would like to feel safe giving her some freedom. In which areas should I look to live? LOWEST crime rate areas. Also, many apts for rent say no pets no children. Is 14 considered a child still?
Thank  you for any information you can offer!!

Dear Anna, if you could state where in the US you are from, or where in the US you think that personal safety is an acceptable norm, then I could check the statistical/actuarial records for you, and figure out whether you are more, or less likely to be, in any danger in Nottingham.

The main things to watch out for are the chaps in green outfits(only need to worry if you're rich) and the traffic on Trent bridge.

With you on this one, Dave!  I understand the local sheriff is quite a character!

Hi Anna. I moved to Nottingham in November of 2003 and was worried about the same thing. It is not bad here. We live in West Bridgford which is, so I hear, the best place to live in Nottingham. Gamston and Compton Acres, also very close by, are also nice. We are thinking of moving to a bigger home there at the end of this year. I actually feel safe walking to the shops here by myself, I am a 30 yr old female, and safer than I would in Houston, where I come from.
I wouldnt worry too much about it. There is crime everywhere, but its not that bad here and defintely not as bad as Houston. Hope you make it over!!!
Victoria :)

Cool!  I'll be moving to Nottingham too!  My best friend and her husband were telling me that they saw a program saying that Nottingham was a higher crime place to live, but I don't believe everything I hear.  If you move there, let me know how you like it. :D

And if you look at the crime rate in London you'd be crazed with worry - but not if you looked at the typical type of crime (which is pickpocketing!)...England seems much safer than the US in most cities though you always have to be cautious regardless.  Just normal ways of living in/near a city.  One of the kids I work with is a young female with a single mom - and they live here in London...never a problem!

Welcome to the board - hope you'll be happy with your move!
