Wedding Gifts from US- Customs Taxes???
« on: June 14, 2009, 10:26:56 PM »
Hi,

We're planning on having a wedding reception next summer in the US.  The gifts that we receive and bring back with us will we have to pay taxes on?  If we ship them instead of bring them on the plane with us will we have to pay taxes?

Thanks!

You need to see here (including the link to Notice 3). http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageImport_ShowContent&id=HMCE_PROD_010220&propertyType=document
There is quite possibly Customs Duty & VAT no matter how you bring them if they are over £340 per head.
