First anniversary in arriving in the UK
« on: June 19, 2009, 11:24:35 AM »
I can say that today is a milestone for me.  Today is my first anniversary in the UK.  I arrived on my spousal visa one year ago.  It seems that not long ago does it?  There have been highs and lows for me while i have been in the UK.  Even now, i feel like not quite such a freak like i once did.  I can do everyday things like errands and get myself to work and appointments.  Boy did i feel like a fish out of water coming here.

All i can do each day is do my very best because i dont know what may happen or what or how people will react.  Living as an expat in the UK is quite an adventure, so is marriage. For all of us here on uk yankee, we are all very adventurous people that have come to settle in a foreign country, whether if it is for education, work , or marriage/settlement.

I have learned the most from reading posts from members here.  THere seems to me to be many fascinating people on this site.  I like the fact that everyone here has a story to tell.  Many here need to work in immigration.  You know your stuff and are willing to help others out with questions that they may have.

The best thing for me is that during this past year that i have gotten the chance to meet a couple of members on this site that live in Portsmouth like me.  I want to thank you for giving me a chance.  Here's to 2 interesting and kind women.

For any one that is about to make the one year milestone, congrats.  It is just the beginning of a new life for many of us that live here in the UK.

Aww..Congratulations on your first year! My first anniversary was in March and it totally blew my mind that it passed so quickly...its had the ups and downs and the joy and tears as it has been a year of life changes, but all accepted with an open heart and mind.

Here's to the quick passing of year 2!

what a great post, congrats!

I'm swiftly approaching the 3-year mark and it's just amazing to me that I've been here that long already!

My congratulations also.

It was inconceivable that not too many years ago to contemplate moving East to the UK because of the lower standard of living there but things have changed.

I tell people here in the US about you all and they don't understand that anyone one would give up the USA.

As many of you would probably reply "they haven't traveled much" or the other possibility is they are some of those that have the good life in the US.

Eh, different strokes for different folks! Most of my friends and family were and are very jealous of my living over here!  ;D But, it's ok to love the USA and not want to live anywhere else, too.

I agree. Most people never move out of their home country in the US or the UK.  If you are happy where you are, and you have no compelling reason, why would you?

Congrats on your one year anniversary! I'm so glad we were able to meet up, thanks to UKY. I enjoyed walking around Southsea with you the other day, and hope to show you around the North End soon. I am so grateful to have made a friend from the US over here. It helps so much to have mutual support and understanding from someone when you're adjusting to life in a new country (and newly married!)

Cheers, to a lovely lady, Kay!  :)

Congrats, kfleet. That's a definite milestone! We just passed our three-year mark. The first two anniversaries we observed with champagne. This year we didn't get around to it, but we did note the day and remember our monumental move.

Congratulations! I am just over the 3 month mark, and while some days it feel like it has been a long hard journey, mostly I just can't believe how the time has flown.

Congrats on your 1 year anniversary.  I just had mine as well.  So many changes, a year can go by pretty fast!
