Upakweship shipping time
« on: June 22, 2009, 08:53:34 PM »
Hi I'm going to be sharing a container from NYC to London to ship over some of my personal belongings as I will only have about 8 large boxes and 2 irregular shaped items to send.  We will be dropping our boxes off at the Upakweship facility in NJ since we live nearby and they told us it would take 4-5 weeks for our things to arrive in London at our door (we don't know our address yet though so that might be another complication with them but we've been upfront with them about this).

Our issue for now is that we are trying to figure out by when we should get our boxes out (leaving for London 7/20 so should have an apartment by beginning/mid august) since despite what Upakweship says I have read on this site multiple times that it takes up to 2-3 months for your belongings to arrive.  We for sure don't want the boxes to arrive before we have a place but we also prefer to receive them before October too!

Anyone have any recent experience to share on how long it took for your boxes to reach your door once you sent them to Upakweship? Are they now on the mark with 4-5 weeks or in general does it always take longer than they say?

Thanks for any and all help!  ;D

From what I was told by the UPak agent I dealt with, the time it takes for the shipment to arrive varies depending on how busy the time of year is. Apparently, just like daily rush hours when commuting to your workplace, or crowded vacation seasons and "off season" vacation seasons, the shipping industry, too, evidently has crowded seasons and not so crowded seasons.

I was shipping in mid July and was told that is indeed the "busy" season, and therefore my estimate was a quote of "Six to eight weeks". It actually arrived in port at just about seven weeks.

At one of their quieter times of year, perhaps four to five weeks is correct too -- I think it all really does depend on the time of year and literally how busy the shipping industry in general is. I guess physical starting point must certainly make a difference too -- from NJ your ship will have a much shorter distance to sail than mine -- mine was starting out from Houston, going to the London port.
