Has your spouse visa ever been denied?
« on: June 24, 2009, 07:58:16 PM »
Has your spouse visa ever been denied and if so, for what reason and what was the overall outcome. Wanted to post this thread to ease some nervousness involved in sending off applications and what to look out for.

The only spousal visa refusals I've ever heard of were due either to missing documents or inadequate finances.  Only a very small percentage of spousal visa applications from the US are refused.  Just make sure you include all the necessary documents and that you have plenty of proof that you are able to support yourselves financially, and you should be OK.

Thanks for the reply, all the information on this site has been so helpful (the visa site looks very confusing at first). We have a few months yet to check all the boxes and gather up everything I I know I will be readig these forums daily

My application was successful (actually granted about an hour after they received it). I can only think of 2 since I've been posting (nearly a year) that have been refused and they were specifically for financial reasons.

my second work visa was a headache... not a nightmare just a headache and a lot of waiting, I am thinking this will just be a universal trait of visa processes

Not if you use an expediter, you could have it in less than a week.

Check posts by almariel. She's in PA too (so am I!) and had issues with the courier she used, but I'm blanking on which one it was right now.

Here we go. She used Global VIP and was not pleased with them:

Something to consider.  I know it turns me off from using Global VIP a bit!

I'll be using Global this week after I get my biometrics done--I can't personally recommend or discourage anyone from using them since I haven't submitted anything to them. But, I can let you know what my experience with them is once I'm done; I'm in email contact with them so far and they seem nice enough via email, so we'll see.

Oh, We're not quite ready for that yet.  I just file all the information away!

Global VIP is fine as long as you don't listen to any "advice" they give.  Almariel was told the wrong thing but double-checked her info on UKY, stuck to her guns, and got her visa.  Frankly, I think the same caveat should be applied to all expediters who aren't also immigration lawyers, which is most of them.  They're great for getting your visa processed quickly, just remember they're not advisers or experts.  That's all.

They have to be careful with spousal visas (and any other visas that involves the spouse/cp of citizen) because while the UK can regulate the immigration of UK citizens' spouses, they can't fall too foul of the EU rights the UK citizen holds.  It's a long and drawn out process to deal with this in European courts, but people are sometimes sucessful.

However, if your visa application fails there are other options such as moving to another EU/EEA country.  It's not exactly the best time to be looking for work in another country, but it's an alternative to LDRs in some worst case scenarios.
