I am so.

geally, I recall the "Fit For Life" book! (But I never read it...it's possible that I bought it back then, though!  :D )

The no carbs after 5 thing, and the no carbs with protein thing is SO HARD! There are so many lovely layered salads avalable now, and about three bites in I find pasta! We had dinner out last night and I ordered a meat dish that had potatoes with it. I was hemming and hawing waiting for the meal...do I eat the potatoes or be good?...and they came and they were so nasty looking I couldn't touch them. Hallelujah!

I hear you...I love potatoes! And pizza (with the cheese...I don't mind it without meat.) But what I really crave is tuna salad on 12-grain bread! I load it with green leaf, sprouts, shredded carrots and some red onion slices....so I guess I could just make a salad of sorts and put a "plop" of tuna on top...BUT it is the chewiness of the bread (with the seeds etc.) that makes it such a treat! Oh, and ANYTHING on a flour tortilla...my favorite comfort food is shrimp or steak fajitas!

Now my tummy is grumbling...off for some brekkie!

(I still give you lots of "points" for skipping the potatoes even if they weren't too appetizing!)

Just want to send a reminder to all...losing more than 1-2 pounds a week means you're losing water weight.  It's not realistic to expect more than that on a healthy diet.  And it's best to take the word diet out of your vocabulary...think of it as eating for life.  If you can't stick to anything for life, then it won't work.  The people who have lost weight & kept it off for years do it moderately - it may take a year or more to lose the weight you want...but you'll most likely never get it back on again.  In terms of exercise - it's a must.  If you can, 3-5 times a week...weight lifting is the best along with some cardio.  Lisa is right about eating small meals in moderation - you do have to watch how much you eat each time though...portion size is key or else you'll just eat way too much.  Find what makes you feel best - for me I can't get rid of carbs or I lose all energy (especially as I tend to be quite active)...watch portion size (we Americans tend to overeat all the time due to portion sizes we are given)...and you can't go wrong with upping your veggies and fruit - you get needed nutrients & water from them.  Drink at least 64 oz of water a day - not only does it help your skin, but it helps you feel a bit more full.  I try to drink at least one glass of water before I eat.  Take your time eating...you won't figure out how full you are until 20 min or more have passed.  So...if you are thinking about another serving or desert...wait, go do something...then see if you really, really want it!

Best of luck to you all...it's a hard struggle!  (from someone who was a size 14 for a while, had an eating issue & became a 6,  but is now a solid 8/10 for years - US size).

ps.  I hope I don't come across as preachy or anything like that.  I've just worked with teenagers on nutrition and health for the past few years & learned a few things that seem to work.  Hope I didn't offend!

I just saw a this topic.  I have been doing the slimming world program sinces March. It has been a roller coaster and in the end I have only keep off 5 pounds. I just go up and down but I guess it is because I don't stick strickly with it. I think I was better off when I just didn't eat chips or crisps or deserts or bread at all. I was on the Atkins diet for a year before I came here and thought I kept the weight off it is so limiting in what you can eat. That is a hard one here since my husband is a great cook and loves to cook. Though he cooks healthy for the most part he uses to much butter. lol and salt.  I have gotten him down on some of it though.

I do find that the exercise helps alot though. We do alot of walking on the footpaths and when we go on holiday. I have found though I ate pretty much what I wanted on holiday I didn't gain weight because we walked so much. We recently spent a week in Wales and I actually lost a pound though I ate lots of fattening deserts.
;D I dreaded going to weight and was quite surprized to see I lost. When we went to paris for four days in April I don't gain either so I think walking really helps to lose and to maintain a lose.  Just hard for me to keep it up on a regular basis when I just want to stay inside with all the rain on the outside. lol  Will keep you posted on my progress.

Be true to yourself.

I had a look at the Slimming World diet but chose to go with weight watchers. I didn't like the food combining because it was too much for me to track and I definitely did not like the idea of labeling some food as 'sins'. But whatever works for you (as long as it is nutritionally okay), go on and do it. Slimming World does not appear to be an unhealthy diet at all; you still have lots of choice and get to eat plenty of food.

I agree with ONeTiger, though. Don't target more than two pounds a week loss tops, and one pound is even better. As someone who's lost weight quickly more times than she cares to remember, I can testify that the faster you lose it the faster it comes back! And when it comes back, it brings more with it!
