Just want to send a reminder to all...losing more than 1-2 pounds a week means you're losing water weight. It's not realistic to expect more than that on a healthy diet. And it's best to take the word diet out of your vocabulary...think of it as eating for life. If you can't stick to anything for life, then it won't work. The people who have lost weight & kept it off for years do it moderately - it may take a year or more to lose the weight you want...but you'll most likely never get it back on again. In terms of exercise - it's a must. If you can, 3-5 times a week...weight lifting is the best along with some cardio. Lisa is right about eating small meals in moderation - you do have to watch how much you eat each time though...portion size is key or else you'll just eat way too much. Find what makes you feel best - for me I can't get rid of carbs or I lose all energy (especially as I tend to be quite active)...watch portion size (we Americans tend to overeat all the time due to portion sizes we are given)...and you can't go wrong with upping your veggies and fruit - you get needed nutrients & water from them. Drink at least 64 oz of water a day - not only does it help your skin, but it helps you feel a bit more full. I try to drink at least one glass of water before I eat. Take your time eating...you won't figure out how full you are until 20 min or more have passed. So...if you are thinking about another serving or desert...wait, go do something...then see if you really, really want it!
Best of luck to you all...it's a hard struggle! (from someone who was a size 14 for a while, had an eating issue & became a 6, but is now a solid 8/10 for years - US size).
ps. I hope I don't come across as preachy or anything like that. I've just worked with teenagers on nutrition and health for the past few years & learned a few things that seem to work. Hope I didn't offend!
