Total coincidence, but my hubby was at the dental clinic yesterday (for wisdom teeth) and they *STRONGLY* recommended he see his GP to get a referral to get his tonsils out!  Apparently they're absolutely massive and likely to cause problems.  But he's only had 1 infection since I've known him and he doesn't seem bothered...especially after I showed him this thread talking about 4 week recovery times!!  What's the worst that can happen if he keeps them in - possibly more infections, but is that it?

I say leave them in til he starts getting sick all the time. BUT if they insist he do it, I think he do it before the baby comes. One baby is hard enough let alone two ;)

My daughter had huge tonsils, but never had an infection. However, she had to have hers removed because she had a 90 percent (!) airway blockage from the size of her tonsils. She had a horrible snoring problem and the tonsils eventually started causing sleep apnea. That's when they came out.

Yeah, my uncle had his tonsils removed as a result of sleep apnea.  Thankfully DH doesn't have any signs at the moment, but I will prod him to at least have his GP give him some advice at his next appointment.  Right now we're too busy dealing with wisdom teeth emergencies!!
