Whoo hoo! Got the job! Now help me please!
« on: July 16, 2009, 06:53:47 PM »
I just received a job offer as a senior practioner/ social worker in Basildon.  The salary will be 35K GBP (if I'm unable to negotiate higher).  I will be moving my family of 3 (husband, toddler, and myself).  My husband would like to work but we're trying not to plan on the income as we don't know how hard it will be for him to find a job (he doesn't have a degree).  We will likely be looking to live in Loughton, Chelmsford, Redbridge (some suggestions that have been made).

Is this salary reasonable?  We will have some debt payments in the US also.  We will have a car but will only pay a fraction of the cost and no insurance and other extra costs (work pays for this).

I'm told that 35K is a very respectful salary. I'll let more recent UKers speak to it on a family of 3.

£35,000 is very respectable for a family of three. We're in the same boat, DH, myself & DD 14 months & we just break £20,000 (cause I'm an overeducated SAHM that no one wants to hire) and we scrape by with a tiny extra to spare thanks to tax credits.
