The BX thing is a big deal.  Although the prices are no where near as good as they used to be.

I would get my friend to buy me some stuff, but I wasn't allowed to shop there.

Further to exJerseyGirl I don't think I have the email from the BX/PX representative I spoke to anymore, but when I initially moved over I found out that only US military personnel & dependants that are on orders in the UK are able to access and utilise the base facilities.  My Dad & I checked on this as when I initially moved over I was still covered as a dependant and my Dad wanted to purchase our Washing Machine & Fridge for us as a house-warming gift.  They said it was something down to the tax concession and that its worked out only for the Military Personnel (etc.) on orders or whom retired here on orders...  So, if you have a military family member or friend and they're coming to visit unfortunately you won't be able to go on the base and make a purchase.   :-\\\\
