Google Voice?
« on: July 28, 2009, 01:48:16 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has gotten an invitation to this yet? I would really like to try this out as I am a tech junkie for online phone/chat!

What do you think about it?

Let me know and heck if ya have an invite I would love one as well ;-)

thanks!

Google Voice appears to be limited to the USA only. You can request an invitation here:
https://services.google.com/fb/forms/googlevoiceinvite/

I'd be curious to hear how it's going. :)

Leah...Yes I requested one but I know it is by invitation only and I know some people have gotten the invitation and I was hoping to get one.

I am excited to try it and when I get my hands on it I will definitely keep ya posted!

I have a couple numbers.. and then got a couple more invites, but I dont suppose these could be transferable since they may have them linked to the email that got the invite...
I could not accept any of the new invites because it asked for a US phone number, which I dont have now...

sorry...
I got mine back when it was grandcentral.com
I even sold one on ebay :)  a few months back...  but now that the invites have started rolling out it probably wont happen anymore...

I have a recent invite that send a link that looks a little like this:
https://www.google.com/voice/inv/P5RJxNzMBrQhs_fK_hct4kCvCI4f7984d2345jnj23ks
but not quite... I wonder if that would do you any good.
On the sign up process it asks for a US phone number to send some verification code...  I  couldn't get past that.
If you signed up for an invite, you should get it soon!
I got one of the 8th, another one on the 15th, another one on the 21st of July, so it looks like they're doing some kind of weekly roll-out?   Try signing up for more/again?
Good luck  :)

Thanks Stacey

I will just keep hitting the request form until I get one ;-)

Did you use it when you were in the US? did you like it?

make requests from different email addresses to have more chances  :)
(I could fwd you one code, I dont know it would work, and didnt want to post the right one because it would likely be useful once only if at all...
but if it only works for the email address associated with the invite on the first place then it would be useless...

Yes, I used it a little bit, or more than a bit, but it really became more usefull when you could send/receive SMSs and get voicemail transcripts etc although thats still in beta and doesnt always writes the right thing...

Plus, I can stil txt people form it and they can think I'm in the US and they can call back and leave a message there as well, but of course it doesnt forward to the UK  :)

So I guess I dont use it much anymore, except it helps me have a permanent US number/presence...

Good Idea as a US voicemail account...

I want to just test the SMS and phone feature - I use Skype but this seems so much cooler...

Yeah I am not sure about the link being associated with the email it went to and if that's the case I don't want to use a bunch of my crap junk email addresses b/c then I have to remember them forever associated with the google voice ha

If you figure anyway out you would rock  [smiley=guitarist.gif]

This program has kicked butt!

I can text the UK for free from the web interface or I can access it on my mobile browser and send the man text whenever I want NO CHARGE!

The reply I can set to go to my cell or only access on the web

Also he can call my google # and it will ring to wk, cell and home all simultaneously and I can answer any of them.  The cool part if I am in my car and I answer my cell, when I get home I can press a button and my home phone will ring and I can grab it there and hang up my cell and doesn't disconnect the call or anything - it is FABULOUS!

I love the fact I can get my voicemail online - so when I head over people who want to leave my voicemails can do so and I can hear online so I can make sure no one leaves vmail on my regular cell phone

Well that is my update - WELL worth once you play with it and figure out all it can do ;-)
