Any one else do this??!
« on: August 05, 2009, 06:28:12 AM »
So. lately I've been missing the hubby (in Scotland) and the UK more than usual so have been watching every British movie I can get my hands on. (Just to hear the accents and see familiar places)  Good or bad.  Anyone else find themselves doing this?  If so what movies are your favorites and which are some of the worst you've seen? Favorite not sure but one of the baddies I've seen lately was "I'll be there", stink fest.

I do too. I love watching Nottinghill and or the Holiday--gah  [smiley=smitten.gif]

I also like to have the UK time on my phone with a shortcut button on the side so that I can just glance at it occasionally. Or I check the weather...silly things like that... ;)

I live in a made-up british world! I am unemployed until I move over, so I spend my days and nights drinking cups of tea and watching BBCA (I just got it back after being without it for AGES) Every morning I watch bargain hunters, you are what you eat, how clean is your house, and ramseys kitchen nightmares. At night it is Top Gear and Graham Norton!.

As far as movies go I love watching Sean Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Death At A Funeral, Closer, Four Weddings, and erm....Harry Potter.

My most comforting viewing ritual is watching Peep Show on youtube. Good god that show is great.

I just realized that I should get out more.

No, but I used to listen to Radio 4 and Classic FM streaming over the net. Because I am an Olde Farte.

While in Glasgow I always listen to smooth radio :) when doing the dishes but it won't let me listen online cause i'm currently in the states.  I guess I will try other stations and see if they will let me :)

I watch Shaun of the Dead and PS I Love You, but that's just because they are 2 of my favorite movies anyway.

I listen to British music all the time though.  My husband is from around Leeds/Sheffield area so I listen to Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs a lot because their accents sound very similar to his.

I also have my husbands weather programmed in on my phone.  So when I'm roasting my tail off here, I can look at how nice and cool it is there and dream of the cooler summers I get to have in the future.

All. The. Time.  I used to watch DVDs of "Black Books" and "Green Wing" endlessly.  Along with listening to various BBC radio programs and any audiobook read with an English accent.

It helped. I think.  It made me feel more a part of his life with the added bonus that I now know a lot more about British history and culture! Hopefully that makes the Life in the UK test easier!

Tarnlover- does P.S.-I Love You make you cry your eyes out EVERY SINGLE TIME you see it? I'm getting misty eyed just thinking about it.

I left one of my favorites off the original list- Across The Universe. My df and I watched it for the first time the day before he left America, and it still makes me feel all mushy.

I have been completely immersing myself with British stuff as well. My bf showed me how to stream BBC iPlayer and iTV over the internet in the states. So I have been watching all of the interesting shows, and the not so interesting shows, just to hear the accents and have it in the background.

I have also been watching British movies like Love Actually, Hot Fuzz, The Holiday, and of course P.S. I Love You (makes me cry like a baby every time!)

dangerface-- I have also been drinking my "cuppa's" regularly. Plus I should also get out of the house more often as well. lol. ;)

I love you and that way my family thinks I am crying at the film...so I am just like the rest of you ladies  ;D

dangerface -- I do use a proxy server. I use the FoxyProxy addon with Firefox and found at least 2 free proxies that work like a charm. My fav is 217.40.158.203:80 works great for me!  [smiley=smart.gif]

Jep-- I know exactly what you mean about crying to P.S. I Love You! I was upset because I left my bf, I decided to watch it for the first time on my flight back from the UK. I cried my eyes out through out the whole movie. I later bought the movie and when ever I feel like having a cry I watch it. lol

Burnskab I am so happy I am not the only one who does that with PS I love you...it just helps you get it all out without anyone around knowing the real reason you are crying hehe
