Cinnamon Rolls?
« on: August 18, 2009, 05:32:59 PM »
Are there any of the refridgerated cinnamon rolls in a tube over here, like we have in the states? I'm looking on tesco.com but the only pillsbury items I can find are Indian breads??? Strange.

I'm only asking b/c I am having a HUGE cinnamon roll craving, and I do not like working with yeast.

No, but I made my grandma's (double) recipe once & literally had cinnamon rolls covering every available surface in our kitchen.  DH came in with a shocked look on his face - 'Just HOW MANY cinnamon rolls are you making?!'  LOL!  But he didn't complain when he had two days' worth of them to take to work & share.  ;)  Plus we had some to give our friends, and still a load left over for us - my god - I had no idea just how many cinnamon rolls her doubled recipe would make!

I really need to make those again sometime!  :)

Maybe try Costco here?  I don't know - sorry.

Aww. I had a feeling! I just wanted a quick fix. I just found out there is a Cinnabon in Piccadilly (not far from my work, people were coming in with bags, and I finally asked someone!) so if I get too desperate I'll go there. :P

And wow how did you make that many? haha. That would take so much TIME! to roll it all.

I don't know - it took all freaking day though!  Once the dough proofed, rolling them out, baking them in batches & frosting them.  There must have been at least 6 dozen - there were cinnamon rolls EVERYWHERE!

I had seen grandma make them before (and she always did a double recipe) but I don't think I ever watched it from start to finish.  And then she would put some away in her huge freezer, give some away, etc...so I just had no idea!

I don't suppose you'd share your grandma's recipe, would you?? I've been craving good homemade cinnamon rolls. Single-sized, though, please. I don't have that much room in the kitchen! LOL

I've used this one several times to great results:

It is an all day project though and helps with raising if you've got a really sunny day or an airing cupboard that kicks out the heat.

I'd love to...except it's really only a half-written down recipe in her old scrawly handwriting, such that I had to pull a real grandma thing as what she called cooking 'by guess and by gosh' to fill in the bits she left out.  Surprisingly, they still turned out really well (must be written in my DNA).  ;) :)

If you want a short-cut to cinnamon rolls, but can't find the pre-made ones in a can, there are alternatives.  If you can find regular, frozen, white bread dough, or frozen yeast rolls, you can defrost those, then roll them flat, spread on melted butter, brown sugar and cinnamon (or any variation), then roll them up and bake them.  You can make a basic icing-sugar and milk glaze for them, too.

It's a little more work than just popping open a tube, but not as much as making the dough from scratch.

Oh that is an excellent idea! Does the dough taste the same?

Well...I suppose that depends on the recipe you normally use. :)  It'd be basically the same dough as the ones my grandma always made.  In hers, the sweetness came from the filling/icing, rather than using a sweet dough or pastry.

I use the *pop open a tube* recipe. ;D So I'm sure this will be great. Thanks!
