Facebook Games: Farmville
« on: September 15, 2009, 01:30:51 AM »
Anyone else here play Farmville? Do you have any tips for me? I'm trying to figure out the best way to earn coins and built up my farm. I'm saving all my coins to expand and am getting enough trees and animals as gifts, that I'm only buying crops. I could still use more trees and animals, but I don't feel I need to buy any.

I'm trying to plant crops that are quick growing (but not too quick so they wither) and are worth much more than it costs to plant. Any recommendations on the best crops? My favorites are rice, soybeans, and peppers. I'm on Level 15.

Anyone else find it really annoying that the price to expand doesn't decrease when you have a larger farm, for example, the first expansion costs 25,000 coins, but it still costs 50,000 coins to expand again. I think the price should be cut down to 25,000! Part of me wants to just keep saving up my coins until I have enough for the largest plantation that's available so far instead of buying more land as I have enough money.

Hi Belita,

Level 23 here...

I don't buy trees and animals, either. They are expensive, and don't give much $ in return; in my opinion, it's because they are supposed to be given as gifts. I don't have very many, because my friends don't give gifts that often, but I'm fine with it.

My absolute favorite crop so far is grapes. You have to be level 20 or 22 to plant them (can't remember which), but they grow in a day, cost only 85 coins, and give you 270 back! Watch out for raspberries; they give no experience.

When I have a surplus of cash, besides expanding, I buy buildings. You get a chunk of experience and earn ribbons, too. Also, the machines are fun, but they run out of fuel quickly, and you have to wait forever for the fuel to replenish itself. But they are convenient when you have enough fuel.

You can't save up and buy the biggest plot you can afford. You have to buy next size in line. >:(

I think the game would be a bit more fun if there were more challenges. Like, if you had to fence your animals in and feed them regularly, otherwise, they would eat your crops or something. :)

I don't have the problem of a surplus of cash. With the rate that I'm able to bring in coins, I should be at the largest farm by the weekend and can then save up since it seems like it's taking a while for the new largest farms to come out.

I'm not sure how I feel about being able to gift things that aren't animals. I like getting the pieces of fence since that's expensive, but I got about 5 bird houses. I ended up selling all but one.

I just got to level 16! I wish they would not be so stingy with the experience points. I think you should be able to get experience points for harvesting trees and collecting from animals.

Thanks for letting me know I can't save up. That stinks!

Sorry for the late reply. I'm at level 34 now, but when I started, I created a value index based on money, experience, and size. Consistently, the best crops are the fruits (berries, tomatoes, and grapes). I once kept a spreadsheet that calculated the best return based on a normal person's day (mainly something in the morning before work, one in the evening after work, and possibly a third one right before bed).
I think trees and animals tend to be ignored by some folk, but they can be very worthwhile for money considering they take up 1/16 the space of a crop (and don't forget the extra gap of two spaces). Over a long period of time (the period I used was the least common multiple of all harvest times, 5520 hours...or 230 days), 16 lime trees will produce more profit than any crop (as each crop is 4x4 or 16 squares), but swans, goats, and olive trees each break 100,000 coins profit in that period of time at the size of one crop while the best crop (peas) will only profit 42,240.

I've started playing a few weeks ago. I'm at level 9. I've not expanded yet but I'm making good use of what I've got. What I don't like is that for some things you have to use the FV money which you have to buy as it takes sooo long to accrue.

wow! The spreadsheet is intense! Thanks!

I love the trees and animals for getting lots of coins, the only problem is they don't give experience.  :(  I'm on Level 25 now! I'm just racking up the coins and trying to save up so I don't have to ever run out of money for planting crops (which kept happening when I would expand). I have the largest size farm now, so I'm just waiting for the expansions.

Ashley, I feel the same about the cash. I wish that if they had so many things that cost cash, they would make it easier to get it, but I guess that's how they make money.  :(

I like that the new mastery points give something to work towards, but I hate that they seem like it'll take at least a year to reach mastery on them all.  :(

Agreed. I got bored with just planting, so I'm making a hedge maze this week (slowly) as I've accumulated around a million coins and have nothing better to do with them. For the mastery, it may seem counter-intuitive, but the raspberries and strawberries go really fast (I've already done two levels of each, plus a few others).

Level 30 here. When I ended up with tons of cash, I'd buy a big building then sell it straight away just to earn the beaucoup experience points you get. Also, I never used to plant short term crops simly because of the time suck, plus I like the gratification of waiting for larger chunks of money. But now that they are doing those little star master bonus things... when you master a crop... I'm doing the short term ones. ;) My big goal right now is to make a humongous forest, I'm nearly done.

I like the  new "opening" when you start the game, being able to see snapshots of other ppls farms. Saw one today where they had made a fake bi-level farm with fences as a wall. Super cool.
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Whoa, nerd alert! [smiley=smart.gif] Just kidding, that's really cool!

Hey, what is it with elephants on a farm? Has anybody received one yet? And you harvest circus peanuts from them?! Well, I guess harvesting ivory would definitely not be cool.

Elephants are wastes of space (like horses). But Farmville has been somewhat vegan-friendly in stating what one harvests from animals (e.g. the pig produces truffles instead of bacon).

I have quite a few elephants and think they're cute! I guess they're trying to be multi-cultural with the types of farms people can make. Yes, you do harvest circus peanuts.

I agree, I fall for the novelty items. It did make me chuckle the first time I 'harvested' my brown cow and found out I would get chocolate milk. I have to say I thought the hot air balloon was cool..but now I find it annoying and might do away with it.

Hopefully this link works. It's a link to my farm, where I have built a hedge maze for everyone. It'll be up until 1 November (as I have other things to keep me occupied between now and then...and this will be a way to stop any temptation from goofing off too much!)

It ended up just taking me to the Farmville app and brought me to my farm.

Yes, and I think now we'll get some strawberry milk with the pink cows?

I like the topiaries, I'm just not sure how to make my farm pretty and put them to good use. I'm still working on my final ribbons and need to keep all my animals and trees until I finish those ribbons. I can't wait to get those ribbons and then just make a pretty farm and work on the mastery and getting all the gifts and crops unlocked.

I think they're cute, too. I just was like, "What is an elephant doing on a farm?"
