American Idol and DWTS?
« on: September 16, 2009, 06:49:33 PM »
I was just curious, does anyone know why these show aren't being shown in the UK this year?  Or are they and I just can't find the listings?

I can't remember but I thought we were usually just a night or two behind the US airings?

I did search and didn't come up with anything so very sorry if this has been asked and answered!

I don't know about DWTS, but American Idol wouldn't be on at the moment, anyway. Simon Cowell is busy with X-Factor!  :)

American Idol usually starts near the end of X Factor (which just started) and I've not seen DWTS here at all. But you can probably find in on YouTube pretty easily.

The UK has the original version of DWTS which is Strictly Come Dancing. That said, I vaguely recall seeing a series of DWTS when I was in the UK but I can't for the life of me recall what channel. It was the one Apolo Ohno won. This was about 2 years ago I believe.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Ohhhhhh I thought AI had started with all the gossip on E news.  But I guess they are just filming the auditions now.  Duh!  I was getting into such a state thinking AI wasn't going to be aired here.  I mean I love x-factor but I would really miss Idol.

I watch Strictly too but I never know who the celebs are so I was so excited last year when DWTS was on as well.  I'll keep an eye out for it.

Thanks everyone:-)

American Idol is usually shown in the UK (on ITV2) just a few days after it is aired in the US - so it should be shown here at the same time as it is on there (from January to May) - Simon Cowell tends to film American Idol in the US in the first half of the year and then Britain's Got Talent and X Factor in the UK in the second half of the year (with some overlap for auditions).

Dancing With The Stars is usually aired on UKTV Gold (cable channel) - I remember watching some of the last season on TV here a few months ago, but I don't know when the new season is/will be shown.

Oh phewf! I just posed in a different thread about the sudden panic I had that I wouldn't be able to watch AI in the UK. So, is it just on 2 days later on ITV2? Is that a special station that we would have to order? I don't know what cable package we will have yet.
Ps. Simon Cowell is one busy man!
Follow your bliss.

I replied to your other post, but I'll write it here too... you can get ITV2 with freeview (you need to buy a freeview box, but then you get so many extra channels for free). You can also watch a live stream of ITV2 shows on the ITV website as well :).

Does anyone know about so you think you can dance? I know reruns are aired on living in the middle of the night... but I was really hoping the new season would be aired over here (preferably not in the middle of the night!)

I'd like to know about SYTYCD too - I've managed to find it online so far, but it would be good to watch it here in the UK. I heard they're doing a UK version of SYTYCD with Nigel and Arlene (from Strictly) - starting on the BBC in January :).
