Nice places to live around Bath and Bristol
« on: October 02, 2009, 09:08:38 PM »
Hi

My wife and I will be moving back to the UK sometime in the new year and need some advice on where to live around Bath or Bristol.  We are a family of 4, kids are 5 and 2 yrs and would ideally like to live in a small town with shops, restaurants, GOOD SCHOOLS etc... , not a small village without any amenities.  Anyway, we are planning to rent for a while (at least a 4 bed house) and we can probably spend around 900-1000 GBP per month.

Any Ideas?

Thanks!

I grew up just north of Bristol in South Gloucestershire and I can vouch for Thornbury as a small(ish) town (about 15,000 people) with some shops, restaurants and also good schools :). We have 6 primary schools and 1 secondary school (plus another secondary school just down the road in Alveston). The primary school I attended (St. Marys) is currently ranked the top primary school in the county :). The town has 2 supermarkets (Tesco and Aldi), a sports centre, golf club, several pubs and restaurants (including 2 Indian, a Chinese, an Italian and a Thai), 5 churches, a castle, a few cafes and a fairly regular bus service into Bristol.

Also, have a look at my posts on this thread for some more info about Thornbury :): http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=52355.msg814108#msg814108
