Thanks Everone!!! We made it!
« on: November 03, 2009, 09:08:23 AM »
My pup made it into the country a little over a week ago.  I wanted to just give a quick thanks to everyone here.  I did all of the leg work to get her in by myself without the help of a pet transport company and this forum is where I got most of my information on how to do it.  It was great moral support to have heard of so many others who had done it successfully.

I'll give you all a quick run down on how our entry went.

We landed at London Heathrow at 11am on a Sunday.  Defra cleared her to enter without quarantine within an hour of landing - that was great news to have early as it took around 2.5 hours after landing for customs to clear her.

She had been microchipped with the Homeagain chip and they had no problems reading it at Heathrow.

The first 5 sections of my EC998 had been filled out by my primary vet, but I had the other vet at her office do the tick and tapeworm treatment and sign off on it.  This seemed to not be a problem either.

I had faxed off my EC998 form, Microchip Certificate, Vaccination Certificate and her Rabies Titer to the Animal Reception Center at Heathrow the day before I flew out.  Not sure if this made a difference either way, but DEFRA did seem to clear her rather quickly on arrival.

I think that's all the relevant details.  Good luck to anyone else who's going through this process!

Laura :)

It IS such a relief to have it over.  I felt ready after spending so many hours reading posts on this forum, but I worried about nearly everything.

My final worry was that the cargo folks in Denver would have missed putting some of her paperwork on the kennel.  They took all my PETS paperwork back to a back office, photocopied it and faxed it to the UK then just stuck it on the kennel in a plastic envelope.  So I never verified that I got all my docs back.  I actively worried about that one for nearly half my trip over - LOL - was just sure something would go wrong!!

It was all my nerves though.  The cargo folks didn't miss anything and it all went super smooth at the ARC.

 :)

Laura :)

Thanks for your post.  I'm waiting to get my spouse visa so I can plan for me and my dogs to go over to the UK.

Glad to hear they were able to read your dog's HomeAgain chip.  My dogs have that chip, too, and I was told I would have to bring my own scanner with me.  Was hoping not too to cut down on costs.

Thanks again for your post.  I think I am stressing myself by reading too much of these forum posts.  But, your post put me at ease.  :)

Hello

I will be moving with my yorkie in about 6.5 months. I have been checking with vets here in San Diego and the price for the titer blood test and vet visit are all over $300. Does that seem high?

Thanks
Jenny

Congrats on making it.....I made it as well with my three pets on 10-25.  I would have posted sooner but it takes so long to get internet service here, and my visits to the internet coffee shop were very limited.
I flew in on BA, and went directly to the ARC right after the flight.  I was a bit nervous since I had three animals, and I was just anticipating on something going wrong even though I was so careful on the paperwork and procedures. The animals were not completely ready when I got there, but when I heard the beautiful words "they all passed", I almost fell to my knees in tears.  What is even more special is that we are all reunited with my husband who has been here in the UK for the last several months

I just want to say thank you as well to everyone.  I could not have done this without you

Good luck Lizzylou!  I stressed over most of this process too.  But, I did better after reading through all the posts and getting a good handle on the process.  Do let us know how it goes for you!

Jenny, $300 does seem a bit on the steep side, but then again, I think my vet in MT undercharged me for a lot of things.  She didn't charge me at all for filling out the EC998 form - for example.  I had filled out most of it, but she spent probably a good half hour going over it with me and making sure she signed the right parts etc.

And yea!  Congratulations Artistplace on making it in with your three pets!!!  That's awesome! :) :)
