LOL!!!!  ;D But here where I live (25 miles north of Newcastle), they don't say pet as much, they usually call us hen or hinny. I do so love the sound of "Y'aright hinny?"  ;)

Eeek, that's terrible! I am totally allergic to being called a female animal name!  :P (and a hinny is a female mule or donkey, isn't it? yikes...)

Unsurprisingly, I disagree with everything the Mail says. French and Italian accents are the sexiest!  :)  I like some English and Welsh accents, but definitely not all. However, they're not sexy!

I think in this case "hinny" = "honey" spelled phonetically as a Geordie would say it.  :)

Agree. And "hen" is really just like "hon." Up here is more like the American south in that way, everyone gets a pet name, more or less.  ;) I think that's why I like the people here so much. Most everyone up here is very friendly and talkative, with a great sense of humour. And yes, I think the accent sounds sexy on many, though there are a few who sound like they have a mouth full of Gobstoppers when they speak!  :P

Love to hear Cheryl speak, but still can't understand a damn word from her mouth  :-X The 'meself' man...

It surprises me that you wouldn't be able to understand her, as she is quite easy to understand for a Geordie! Not everyone here says "meself" or "me" all the time, either, so I'm not sure if that's just particular to her or not. I've not heard that from many people where I live. But there are other far stranger and more difficult things to understand around here.  ;)

They Derby accent and 'me duck (dook)' and 'me love (loov)' took me a while to get used to hearing. My husband uses 'me' instead of 'my' (and his mom put him in elocution lessons as a kid!) and he was born in Nottingham but lived 90% of his live in Derby, so I don't think it's just a Geordie thing.

I don't know any English people who aren't Geordies, but on the films and television shows here, the Cockney folks always say "me" and "meself" too.  :)

Some with a Leeds accent (usually younger people, but not always) sound like what I would describe as talking with all of their fingers shoved into their mouth--sort of like they're sitting in the dentist's chair.  Definitely *not* attractive, let alone sexy.

I agree with those of you who voted for Irish accents as being sexy!  And I do think my hubby's Manchester accent is sexy as well.

Oooh, when I worked at camp there was a French boy named Francois who was pretty dorky and didn't use deodorant.  But, man...when he talked he was sooo sexy.

I like my husband's English accent.

American accents sound ridiculous to me now.  And Irish and Scottish accents just don't do anything for me.

Snap.
I sometimes think the sound or quality of someone's voice is sexy, but it has nothing to do with accent, for goodness' sake!

Ditto.

Oh, and your husband does have a nice accent! I like my DH's too. Very ... nonregional.

Yes!! Alan Rickman, for example! Swoooooon!

Must have been a biased article... no mention of German, Russian or Chinese accents.

 ;D
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

I've never found French accents particularly sexy.  I once had a thing for certain British accents but it was very dependent on the person.  I think my opinion on this now is probably closer to Q-G or Chary:  I often find different accents interesting or intriguing but only occasionally sexy, and never across a whole group of people.

True, it's the whole package!  I'm sure there are plenty of Irish guys that I wouldn't find sexy (it takes more than the accent alone).

All it takes is hearing (whichever) accent out of the mouth of an annoying boss or lascivious old drunk at the bus stop, to take the shine off it.  ;)
