The Smileys are stealing my post!
« on: November 09, 2009, 02:09:55 PM »
In the last week I have noticed this not sure if it's just me or happening to others. When I am writing a new post say half way through I will go to add a smiley and as soon as I click on a smiley my post disappears. I'd say like one out of every 10 posts. It's super annoying to have to start over and sometimes I just say forget it. Whats up with this?

It hasn't been mentioned before now. What browser and operating system are you using?

If you're using a computer to access the site, it should show an operating system loading when you start it, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Apple/Mac, possibly something else.

The browser is what you use when viewing websites, usually a blue e for Internet Explorer, or an orange fox for Firefox, there are a few others, Safari, Opera, Google Chrome are the most popular.

Hope that helps.

I have Vista and IE as well, but have never had your smiley problem! Weird!

I know it's very odd! I've started to copy my post now (just in case) before I use a smiley so I only have to paste it if it goes bye bye. Also just in case this has anything to do with it, it seems more likely to happen when I'm replying to a post not making a new one.

Thanks. If this is something that only started in the past week, it could be that some temporary files could have corrupted, these help pages load faster when the browser stores copies in a cache. If you push the Alt button, a menu will appear at the top. Click Tools, and Internet Options.

Then please follow the instructions to clear the cache, from Step 2 in either of the methods found here:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Delete-temporary-Internet-files

Let me know if that solves it, I can't seem to reproduce the problem in IE8 on my Vista machine.

Crossposting, I'll test with a reply as well.
