I don't mind colors or patterns (depending on what it its) in my bedding, but I do so hate the bedspread (it is an actual bedspread--not a duvet) in my MILs guest bedroom.  It's like climbing up into a coffin going to bed there!  The bed is *high* up and the bedspread is sort of a pale earthy green color, quilted and satiny and shiny--slippy and slidey with the sheets underneath tightly pulled under the mattress--suffocating.

I'm in the patterned camp with Mindy!

I ended up taking a quilted bed spread to the UK with me as I'm not a huge duvet fan myself. But I also had a queen down duvet from the US that, because it was down, wasn't so thick and puffy as some of the synthetic duvets you can get. It hung more like what you see in your picture above.

I suspect you have 3 choices - explore the quilts and eiderdowns in the UK (also search for oversize bedding), import one from the US, or have something custom made in the UK.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I felt the same way for about the first week I lived here, but now I looove duvets. Never has it been so easy to change the entire look of the bedroom! I do miss my microfiber comforter, as well, but... eh. Nicer to have the flexibility that can only be offered by a naked duvet and ten different covers.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but here's a few comforters in the UK (from Google). I'm sure I've seen them on QVC also.

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

If you google UK pages only for a king size eiderdown you'll find lots.

You have to choose the colour and then the picture changes

I agree with those  who buy  their  duvet  a bigger size than their  mattress.. It helps.. I also like  a flat  sheet as well underneath  but that is  just me. ..

I have a flat sheet and a blanket underneath.  Then I can adjust as needed, depending on the temperature.

I dearly love duvets, though.  Having two geriatric cats means there are sometimes accidents, and the vast majority of the time, I can just wash the cover (a thicker, rough-hewn cover and not just sheeting) and not have to have the whole duvet cleaned.   ;D
