My dog is like a kid
« on: December 05, 2009, 10:51:28 AM »
She's overdue for her morning nap (she normally takes herself off to bed when we go to work), so she's sitting next to me on the sofa, looking out the window, but nodding off. Her little head starts to tip over to the side then, suddenly, jerks up and sits upright again.

Then, a few seconds later, her head starts dipping the other way, slooooowly, then HUP! She jerks bolt upright, eyes blinking. LOL

Just like kids, can't bear to miss a thing  ;D

You got my DD's dog? Sounds just like him. He comes over to my place if there is no one in their house for long periods.

Poor thing sits and does that same thing - eyes close, head nods, lower and lower and then, just like his grandpa, suddenly jerks it up as if to say I'm not sleepy, no, not me. And the eye lids start to droop again and the cycle repeats.

Little people, eh?

I don't like the way our dog has us trained. I also don't like the way she knows how to spell.

We sometimes say to each other (DW) do you want to take her out for a walk? Now we spell out 'walk' because she knows what we are saying. It makes no difference, she knows what we are spelling and her head goes to the side and she is ready to go.

Fortunately she doesn't bark her orders she just whimpers.

I want to go out!
I need water in my dish!
Get out of bed don't you know what time it is!
I'm human to so lets have some of that food thats on your plate!
Come on its play time!

I hear ya!  ;) I get so mad when hubbby slips up and says "dinner" before I'm ready to feed them!

Ours of course know "dinner" and "treat" and "walk" but they also know:

Cheese
biscuit
peanut butter
breakfast
outside
go see daddy
bath
Bendaryl (don't ask)
Grandma & Grandpa
Holiday - this one makes the oldest one sad 'cause he thinks we're leaving him  :(

Occasionally hubby will tease our littlest one by saying a quick combination of several of these words and watching his little head tilt back and forth.

I've got DD's chihuahua staying with us just now and he has a little basket bed thing to sleep in. Ya know the kind - round, cushiony basket with a section of the side missing (lower end for the 'entrance'). Well since my house can have a wee draft blowing through, I turned the basket bed so the 'entrance' was next to a chair that has a blanket drapping off to the floor (thought it would provide a solid 'wall'). Last night I was sitting facing him and the telly. Well ya know the weird positions dogs can sleep, well he was sleeping on his side with his back towards the blanket and he rolled over, while asleep, and rolled right out. But not only did he roll out, he rolled right out of sight and disappeared under the chair and blanket. Poor thing looked bedazzled.

That was truly the funniest Kodak moment for the brain I have seen in a long time.
