« on: December 17, 2009, 02:25:01 PM »
A friend on the rig with DH is getting married Feb 19th wanting to go on honeymoon 20th or 21st and is clueless....

He has no budget no ideas on where he wants to go and asked me for help - HA

I have no IDEA where you go when you are over there or where to look...

He would fly out of Edinburgh or Glasgow

Any ideas?

My wife and I went to the Maldives for our honeymoon in October, and it was the most amazing place I've ever been (and I worked on cruise ships, so I've been to some amazing places).  The islands and sea were beautiful, the people were friendly, and even on the 5th of 7 days I was still marveling at how great it was.

There are a ton of resorts to choose from.  We stayed at Meeru, which I recommend highly:

We flew out of London with a stop in Dubai.  It took about 11 hours to get there, but on Emirates it was a pretty pleasant flight.

When you say he has "no budget," do you mean he has no money or that he doesn't know how much he can spend?

Does he seem like the type of guy that would like to see and do some stuff on his honeymoon, or just enjoy the view from the bedroom window? ;)

Nice would be my first thought, but you do have to fly via LHR if leaving from Glasgow.  You can get to Majorca (Palma) on Easy Jet from Glasgow.  Without knowing anything about them, its difficult to make suggestions...

They are young - mid-20's and just want a fun/romantic vacation.
No hiking no craziness and doesn't wanna spend a fortune.

I just don't know enough about holidays over there - US - sure I can book no prob even Mexico!

Just look for ideas or sites ;-)

You can fly direct from Edinburgh to Nice.  Maybe Malta.  Or if they just want something cheap and geared towards young people, the usual places are Majorca, Lanzarote, Tenerife.  Spain.

Seconded if they are in their mid-20s. I would focus your search there.

It's a pretty plain Jane suggestion, buuut... my husband and I started a tradition of having a honeymoon every year (so we had our third honeymoon/second anniversary back in July -daww  ;D).  We decided that, for hte most part, we'll take advantage of having a car to explore this lovely country, and so, we pick some place neither of us have been to drive to.  While there, we rent a little cabin or something of the like, and then just enjoy our little home away from home for the week/weekend.  The first year, we went to Oakham and wandered around there and the Rutland water; very pretty!  This year, we stayed at a friend's cabin up in the Penines, and had intended short drives to see Scotland and
Hadrian's Wall. Unfortunately, it was that week where the entire country was underwater, and being in the mountains, we decided it was best to stay put. :)

But both trips were definitely EXTREMELY enjoyable, and low key - we could go do things or not as suited us, and we got to see more of this country we love.  Next year, we're going to cheat and go to Cambridge -  my husband has been, but I've not, and as our baby will only be 7~ months old, we want to be less than an hour away from home in case something goes wrong and my in-laws need us to check in!

Try Italy, that beautiful town, whatever the name of that town on the mountain side is?
"As I write, highly civilized human beings are flying overhead, trying to kill me.

They do not feel any enmity against me as an individual, nor I against them. They are ‘only doing their duty’, as the saying goes. Most of them, I have no doubt, are kind-hearted law-abiding men who would never dream of committing murder in private life."

Have you tried checking some travel websites like co-operativetravel.co.uk or thomascook.com?
