Child traveling on ILR in old passport
« on: January 11, 2010, 06:00:08 PM »
Hiya!  I was wondering if anyone had any experiences traveling with a child that has their ILR in an old passport.  I've read that I don't need to pay the £165 to transfer to his new passport but I've also read some horror stories of people who traveled carrying the old passport with the ILR and current passport.

We are looking to go stateside around Easter and need advice on if I should transfer his or just go ahead with what we have.

Thanks in advance for your views.

The ILR does not need to be transferred. You just have to carry both passports. Here it is from the Horses Mouth (UKBA):
Quote
You do not need to transfer your residence permit to your new passport. If you choose not to transfer your permit, you should carry both your old and new passports when you travel to the UK - this will prove to our immigration officers that you have the right to be in the UK. If you cannot produce your residence permit when you arrive at our border, you may not be allowed to enter the country.

Thanks for that.  I've read that as well and then read another story about someone being redmarked for not having it in their current passport.

Hope all is well on your end Weby!

If you're at all concerend print out that page & take it with you when you travel.

Just as all visa or entry 'stories' you hear, you have to take it with a grain of salt. Obviously in this case the 'story' isn't accurate. Most likely they neglected to take their old passport with them as well as the new one as the rule requries when the visa is not transferred.

Good idea.

I've had troubles myself with the kids traveling to and from.  I got one 'cocky' entry officer that wasn't going to let my daughter in to the states.  It was crazy and I was looking to avoid any drama.
