It's near the police station. If Richard can't take you, pm me and I'll give you a lift.

Awww. I wanna live near Mindy. S'not fair.

Isn't she awesome? She's my uncle's granddaughter from his second marriage (his wife's daugher's baby). She is WAY too smart for a kid her age. They are run ragged by her and she's not even 3 yet!  :D

I love her!!!  So cute!

Sorry, I forgot to post about my interview!

First off, Richard and I left at 8:25 to get to Woking figuring I'd be there early, but hey that is ok!  Well, that did not happen, because of traffic I got there at 9:14 for a 9:15 appointment!  I was freaking cause they say be there at least 15 minutes early!  Richard told me to get out of the car and walk/run because I would get there quicker and he was right, I was about 2 minutes walk away from the place and sitting in bumper to bumper traffic.  (Funny I know, I always picture LA, or NY for the B to B traffic)  Anyway I got there and the man just said have a seat, 30 seconds later like Lola I was in my little room.  The woman came in and was very nice.  I had all my stuff (Thanks Lola) And at 9:40 I was walking out the door!  Of course I have to wait between 2 weeks and 3 MONTHS!!!!  But hey, I can claim it all back right!?  By the way, has anyone done this?  How do you do it?  Should I start a new thread on claiming back Emergency Tax?  Again, thank you Lola, I was so not nervous and so prepared because of you!  You rock!

Hey, you're welcome!   But the real credit goes to everybody who went through it before me--I wouldn't have been so prepared without their posts!

So glad it went smoothly for you!   ;D

You can claim the taxes back.  It depends on where you work--some places will adjust your tax code and the next pay period you'll get your taxes back with your regular pay.  Other places leave you to apply for your back taxes all by yourself.  I work for the first kind of company, so I don't know about claiming it back....has anyone filed for back taxes before?????????

Ohhh, OK, I will ask them.  I work for a Uni.  But you know, it didn't seem like a lot of taxes were taken out to begin with anyway, so I don't know?  But thanks, I will ask them.

OK, thanks everyone else for all your help!  I really love this board, it's got me through so much!!!

I to want to thank everyone that shared there experiences about there NI interview. Though I keep thinking of things the night before I might need and had trouble going to sleep I had checked the list of things from this site that everyone had shared and I ended up with more then enough stuff for the proofs I needed. Now if getting my driving license could just be this easy. lol  oh well one step at a time.

I had to see a doctor about 6 months into my stay, and they sorted out my National Insuance numebr for me.  I filled out some papers, and a couple of months later, I got my number.  Is this right?  Seemed too easy......

Sounds like that was a National Health number rather than a National Insurance number, Ed. NIN is like your social security number - for taxes rather than health care....

Yep, Ed...it sounds like you got your NHS number.  If you're working in the UK,  you'll need to apply for a National Insurance Number, which is the rough equivalent of the US SSN.  Just call your local JobCentre (PLUS) and ask for an appointment.

D'oh!  Silly me.  This raises a good question though.

If I am still getting paid from the states, and I intend on doing so for the duration of my time in the UK (anouther 2-3 years), is there any reason I need this number?  I am still paying Social Security, and I believe there are reciprocity aggreements in place so that I don't have to pay both.

Anybody have nay info on this?  I will be liable for UK tax this year (I am told), but my company is handling the filing for me.

Thanks
