Harley Street dentists - hype or worthwhile exploring ?
« on: February 17, 2010, 01:09:37 PM »
After a botched porcelain crown job I am desperately looking to find a private dentist who gets it right.

I was wondering if dentists (and all other medical practitioners for that matter) located in Harley Street in London are worthwhile exploring? I would assume that only the best ones make it in such a high priced area with high maintenance/demanding customers?

Maybe that's wishful thinking?

I'm just bumping this to see if anyone out there has any experience with the Harley Street practitioners. Unfortunately I don't, so I don't feel comfortable responding to you. All I know about them is what I see on 'Embarrassing Bodies'!  :P

Maybe if you find a dentist you're interested in using, you could do a google search to see if anything pops up.

Maitri, perhaps if you tell us where you're located someone in the same area could recommend a dentist to you.

I go to a dentist in Harley Street, but not because he's in Harley Street.

We're still on US insurance, so when my husband had a dental emergency soon after moving last year, he just looked through our plan's directory and picked a name.  The dentist happened to have his practice in Harley Street, and it's very close to where we live.  He was happy with the dentist, so I went there, too.

I'm happy to give you his name, but I have very uncomplicated teeth (no fillings, braces, etc.), so I can't vouch for anything other than some x-rays and an exam and a hygienist cleaning.  It was pretty much the same as any good-but-routine appointment I had in the US, but I have nothing else to compare it to in the UK.

Thank you Bmore and Ophinky!

I spent hours on online research. Seems there are no consumer/patient review online forums like in the US where one can find a review on almost everything.

I posted on this forum last year when looking for a dentist in the Weybridge, Surrey, area but without much luck. Asking my neighbors for a dentist referral isn't an option either.

Anyway - I decided to hold off for now trying another UK dentist. I will make an appointment with my previous dentist in the US when visiting in April. With some luck the tooth ache doesn't come back before that.

I have an excellent dentist who does both private and NHS.  He specialises in cosmetic dentistry, so crowns would be his thing.  I really can't recommend him enough.  If you're interested, PM me and I will send you his details.  He's not in Harley Street, but he is in London.

I have an excellent dentist near Covent Garden and I've also been seen by an American trained dentist on Harley St. The American guy is obviously $$$ but was very nice. I thought I cracked a tooth, turned out I didn't so he didn't charge me. No idea what he would charge to fix your crown. If you PM me I can send you the details of both.
